New Wrangler Buying Advice

Hi Everyone,
I came here to just ask for some general advice. Within the next few months I plan on buying a new Jeep Wrangler. Being a recent grad and starting life in the working world, I am new to buying non used cars. I am looking at buying a 4 Door Jeep Wrangler.

- I was looking at trying to keep the price around $40K and below. Seems relatively doable. I have had leather seats in the past few cars, and was hoping to buy a jeep with it. However, although Mopar leather seats are an option on the Sport S and Altitude options, when searching for Jeeps in my area (with a pretty wide range in Southern New Hampshire) absolutely no jeeps have leather seats that are below the Sahara trim level. It was probably a mistake from the Jeep website to list the Sport S having Leather options? They don't seem to really sell Sport Altitudes period.

- Do you have advice as to when I should be really going to dealers? Obliviously the 2020 models aren't far away, so I would imagine dealers are getting ready to try and unload as much 2019 inventory as possible. I've talked to people who have recommend middle of the week, at the end of the month...hoping to catch dealers getting anxious to fill quotas

- What is actually a good deal compared to MSRP? I would imagine the Jeep website inflates MSRP a little bit to make you feel like you are getting more of a deal than you actually are. When looking at these prices, it seems everyone is consistently at a minimum $2000 below MSRP. But what should I actually be looking for? 5k below? In your experience what prices have you seen.

Thanks everyone. Any help with any of these questions or general advice would be incredible!

Most leather seats today are not real leather, they are a manufactured leather. MSRP is a suggested price. Good luck

Some thoughts.

- Sport S - things have changed since I ordered my JKU. The JLU is more expensive overall and features that weren't available on some models now are. Looks like you can get leather in the Sport S and you can equip one quite nicely in the $40k range. If I were to order today I might choose one instead of a Sahara.

- pricing. FCA offers affiliate programs to employees of certain companies or members of certain groups. If you join Tread Lightly for at the $100 level in 30 days they'll send you an affiliate code if you request. It gets you pricing that is 1% below invoice (plus a small fee, maybe $75 if it's still the same).

That said it is not uncommon for dealers to offer invoice or near invoice pricing (and to be upfront with you, even showing you the invoice sheet which lists affiliate and employee pricing). I could have easily bought mine at about invoice, but used the program for ease and few more dollars off.

In my case my Sahara (pretty well loaded) had an msrp around $42k and cost about $38k.

You might do even better with a leftover as the new models arrive, but you might have to settle for something you didn't want in options or colors. Only you can decide if the additional savings is worth it.

Edit- you can also do aftermarket leather. I had two really good experiences with that using a customizing shop.

If you're not in a rush and you are picky (like me) you can likely order it built like you want.

Happy hunting.

Thanks for your post. It's very helpful. I'm searching for a new or used Wrangler in the area west of Toronto. I have sticker shock. Looking at prices here, then seeing Canadian prices--it's a shock.
