MK Compass or KL Cherokee

Looking at buying an inexpensive one of these for my daughter, in automatic, from around the mid 201x's.
Primary Concerns are:
1) Safety
2) Reliability & Ease of Repair
3) Interior Space
4) Fuel Economy

Anything to watch out for?
Anything to prefer one over the other?
Worth hanging out for the Diesel?

The KL is a better choice than the MK as far as I'm concerned.

I have a friend that has had nothing but issues with the Compass and several friends that have had great experiences with the KL, including one who has a 2015 with over 100K on it from commuting to work 200 miles a day.

We had a 2016 KL quite a few problems with it, transmission mainly but also had some electrical gremlin they could never find where the whole radio/uconnect system would not boot up.

Wife went in this year and decided she like the 2020 compass better, it is a little smaller but I honestly like it better.
