Looking at an XJ tomorrow

I found an 89 XJ for sale and have an appointment to see it tomorrow. It is an original owner vehicle. Looks like new in picture. But I learned when looking to buy a house that pictures have a way of hiding a lot. However Carfax shows no problems confirms one owner and that vehicle has been driven 7-9k miles annually. 195k on odometer. Owner has original window sticker from vehicle 31 yrs after purchase. I can’t help but to think that is a good sign. CA vehicle born and raised. Highly optioned which is what really got my attention. It has up country package (taller springs, trans cooler, bigger radiator, limited slip rear dif, factory skid plates and 135 amp alternator) also is Laredo version with tow package. Select trac transfer case. The mileage is high but I’m thinking all things considered I may have found gold. Price is decent from what I’ve seen out west here. Figure I am probably gonna have to freshen up motor soon? But that isn’t that big of deal in my opinion. Any input on what to look for in my inspection and test drive would be appreciated as I have no experience with Jeep or 4WD vehicles. This is intended to be towed for my rv. And to take grandkids off roading. They are young so easy going trails for now. If as they get older the need for upgrades arise then maybe they will be interested enough to help out with the work. Any advice is appreciated.

So, now that you've seen the XJ, which direction you leaning. XJ or Wrangler.

Well I found what I believe to be one of the nicest XJ’s available and bought it. Problem now is it is in such excellent original shape that it seems a shame to cut it up and mod it. Which is what the plan was from beginning. Has me rethinking things.

I agree, I would have a hard time making any changes to that vehicle. It looks like it was in a time capsule and It'd be a shame to mod it up.

I'd keep it as it is. Too nice to mod up. Keep that one for posterity and find another to mod up.

I have to agree it'd be a shame to cut that one up.
