JKU Overpriced or worth it?

I'm looking at a 2012 JKU with 102K miles on it. It's a Sport model with soft top and auto trans priced at $23,800. But it's an AEV build, which would justify a slightly higher price IMO.

Even in excellent condition you shouldn't pay more than $15,000.

When I see the price of OEM I think aftermarket.
When I see the quality of aftermarket I think OEM.

Aev build to me means you dont have a complete lift. really the only thing Aev ever had made since they dont really make most the stuff anyway, was the Nth degree springs, the rest is stock parts and a box of brackets. But if today i was looking at springs it would not be Nth. they are better in sense of free length. As for lifts, they are so far behind and at a cost where people could be in a good lift. with real control arms and track bars.....just saying as its true.

Sport model tends to have 3.21 gears. If they tossed on say 35s even 33s its not geared correctly. this effects street way more then off road. gears are real expensive.

I will say when looking at used Jks i wonder if they are a good buy? 3.6 is not low cost to work on, nor is a Jeep. even simple things like changing plugs. At the dealer is 500$+. You have to take the intake system off. Head issues, and related valve train, the oil cooler/ filter housings tend to break fall apart, oil pump solenoids etc.. Even though the left head is extended warranty. the right does not.

If i was held at gun point and had to but another fiat. At least find one with 3.73 gears< thank me latter. I dont think the 3.6 is going to be like the 4.0s that were known to last a few 100k. Its more a toss away design. Cast in exhaust heads is really a bad design along with QC issues. Just my2c.

Thanks for the responses. It did seem overpriced to me as well, and based on Doc's response, it doesn't seem the AEV build even adds much value. I think I'll pass on this one.

In 2013, my stock 2010 jk 4D/auto/softop with 53k was on sale for 19k.

Just a few months ago i met a guy who bought a 2015 4D jk with a ton of mods for $27k .
Not sure of the specs but it looked like it was meant to crawl.

Hopefully you get lucky. There’s a good deal to be had out there.
