2015 or 2016 grand cherokee

I'm sure this has been discussed when the vehicles first came out. But here towards the end of 2018 I am looking to buy a used grand cherokee Summit. Both the 2015 and 2016 are in my price range obviously 2015 a little cheaper. There's not as many 2016 summits out right now as its not quite at the 3 year mark yet for the leases which is why I was wondering if I should just wait 3 months till there are more in the market.

Please let me know reasons for each year or whichever you think. Completely new to jeep.

Thanks!

Either are fine vehicles, I believe 14-16 had some slight changes over the previous years and the 17's went back to the more mechanical shifter.

Other than mileage, the 15 and the 16 are just about the same.

I thought there were cosmetic changes as well as an engine upgrade between the 2 years I mentioned. Is this misinformed? or does it not make a big difference?

IMHO, any upgrade to the Pentastar is minor. I know in 14, they changed the oil filter housing.

OK, so a quick look at WK2jeeps shows the differences. Some interior redesign, changing some frame components to aluminum, ESS (bad in my opinion), Pentastar tweaks, electric power steering, updated infotainment system screens and the options for lane assist, park assist, etc.

Personally, I don't use/want some of those "features". As I have a 17, I have a lot of those changes and had to insist that I wasn't interested in some of those new nanny devices. I haven't seen any difference in the 17 Pentastar and the 12 Pentastar (I have both) . The biggie for me was the 8 Speed ZF transmission and both the 15 and 16 have it.

I hate the Engine StopStart, one of these days a GC with ESS isn't going to restart fast enough and someone is going to get hurt.

Only you can decide if the changes are worth it. Warranty wise, the 16 may be a better choice if the price is right. If it's a large cost difference, I don't think the changes are worth it and I have all of them in mine.
