What rear end do I have

I got a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee awd 5.2l there is no tag on the rear end. How can I tell what diff and gear ratio I have?

It came with a D44A w/3.73's.
Whether that's what it still has, I have no way of knowing.

do a tire <to> drive shaft rotation count and do the math=rather simple.

44a with 3.73's was factory as stated. Almost all V8 are 3.73, and the probability of a 3.55 unicorn in a 98 is 0.

Thanks guys. Definitely a 44. I will be pulling the cover off and counting teeth shortly just to confirm the ratio but I wanted to figure out what is was so I can look into parts.

Do remember that the D44HD (also called D44a due to the aluminum center section) doesn't really share any parts with the standard D44.

R&P tooth counts should be stamped on the side of ring gear, something like 41 11 = 3.73
