I know the housing is not a shroud and i havent had any issues with airflow without a shroud. It blows directly onto the water pump and top side of the intake and never gets above 210.

The entire thing is the shroud. Same way on the 5.9 but the 5.9 fan is designed a bit better. It's all one piece.

Hey what up with the lower radiator hose. It has a fan senor and a tube the fan sensor goes into it. Does that tube restrict flow? Have you heard of people replacing the hose with one that doesn't have that price in it? I'm using a aftermarket temp sensor to trigger my fan. Thanks for all the help.
Go back to the stock fan. The 2200 cfm POS you're running now flows less than the stock 5.9 / Taurus fan setup does on low...

Well i am extremely disappointed. I have been pulled from work and looking at getting put through the mill starting tomorrow. The funny thing is I am worried about earning so I can complete my ZJ project not about what the Dr's are freaking out over. I have enjoyed very much working on this project. My niner is like another kid and with mine grown and out living life I have been able to focus my attention and caring all on her. I still have a bunch of parts trickling in over the week or two so I will have some things too lavish her with. I just hope I can continue to keep her in the lavish parts life style she has become accustomed to. I would hate for her to leave me for another sugar daddy.

To put numbers on it, the Taurus Fan (same as the 5.9 fan) flows 2500cfm low/4500cfm high. I've heard conflicting reports, but the stock 5.2 clutch fan pulls 4000cfm at 2000rpm, apparently, while the HD fan clutch pulls closer to 6000, reportedly.

The point is, that tiny fan dyno-guy is using is insufficient.

I don't really consider the housing a shroud just because it is a piece of it and not something that actually sticks out closer to the engine. My factory shroud was a 2 piece design that bolted to the rad and came within a couple of inches from the belt system.

Wife's 98ZJ died upon impact on 8/23/2014 when it was totaled from behind. I kept it as a parts car (112k and a 98% perfect car otherwise). Tired of towing it around the property to get the occasional part from it or move it because it is in the way. I had verified that it had zero fuel pressure so today I pulled the tank, filet'ed the pump assy and sure enough the outlet nipple was broken off flush. Since I have had 2 close friends pass since Saturday, I REALLY needed some alone time in the shop........
It should go back together tomorrow to see if my fix works. Even if it does not work, it was time well spent making shavings.

It's a shroud. It's totally a shroud. It wraps around the fan blade and creates something of a seal against the radiator, so the fan can force air to move over the radiator, rather than just throw air around all willy-nilly. Doesn't matter what the clutch fan shroud was like, or how close it is to the accessory drive, it's a shroud. As opposed to something like this, which doesn't have a shroud:

The point of the shroud is to control air movement through the radiator not air movement over the engine.
