torx screws on the PCM....

so i read on another forum that on a Zj on the PCM that there are two torx screws that hold the case on and they are 1/2" and if they are replaced with 1/4" torx screws that they can solve an intermittent stalling problem that i am having and am under the impression it is electrical related

there it is IDK if it will work im going off shore fishin and am not available to wrk on my jeep till late sunday or early monday but ill let yall know if this freeby helps for all that need this fixed also if it wrks ill make a write up cuz ive spent well over $250 to not have it wrking right yet after 4 months

it is mentioned somewhere else that it makes sense this problem would happen b/c as the jeep gets older the PCM gets heavier and pulls down on the torx bolts until it causes a short, but idk like i said ill keep yall posted but first what do yall think

Your fix may be a bit different than what is indicated in that thread. 96 was when DC switch to an ODBII system, so the computer is totally different.

Have you checked the CPS?

I have a '90 jeep cherokee with the same engine quit problem. I have been trying to find out more about where this pcm is located, but haven't been able to find out what that is or where it is, can anyone explain this to me? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks! Renee.

We read that they are Torx T15 with standard sheetmetal-screw thread pitch. We're gonna try the 1/4" trick next weekend. Wish us luck!

This doesn't actually solve the issue. The issue is with the PCM header at the solder joints. When you remove the screws and replace them with shorter screws, you allow the header to flex a bit more, which temporarily creates a better connection, but the solder joints are still cracked and it will eventually fail again. The real repair is to take it apart and reflow the header connections.
