Saving a 5.9-Mini build/resto

Hey guys not sure if this is the right place. I am going to be looking for some input but also posting some pics of my progress as I go.

In December 2016 a local kid listed his 5.9 for $1400 because he just bought a new car. It had a few issues and he saw it as a POS he wanted gone. I called him after the ad being up for 15 mins and snagged it for $1,200.
The jeep was in great shape and had 160k on it so I figured why not. It had new tires and a brand new bluetooth deck and speakers in it too. I bought it just to keep my TJ off the NE salty roads, however I have been DDing it since then and now that I have put 2500 miles on her I decided I really like. I am going to dump some $ into it and make it my own and get her back into shape. It has been a great driver so far and on my 60 mile commute done a great job.

It had all the typical ZJ issues which I have started fixing (this is my 4th ZJ and 14th jeep i have owned so this is nothing new to me lol).

Issues-
Sticking drivers door-Fixed
VIC errors- Fixed
Flashing dash lights-Fixed
Bad rear pinion bearing in the 44a- Ford 8.8 being prepped now for an artec truss. I snagged a 3.73 limited slip with low miles and disc brakes for $200. Got the truss for 341 shipped so I will be all in at $541 for the 8.8.
Leaky Radiator-Aluminum rad and aux trans cooling on the way to me now. I got an all new cooling system pump, tstat, hoses, everything. It runs normal now but who knows when any of it was done so its cheap insurance.
Dented fender-Grabbed matching one of a parts 5.9 for $60
Paint peeling on hood- In spring I am going to remove it and have it repainted for about $100

Plans-
5.5 IRO CP Long arm kit with bilstiens. $2000 shipped
33inch KM2s on rubi wheels -Free
Trussed 8.8 with the stock 3.73s (for now) $550
Stock front dif with a non CV drive shaft(for now) $80
242 Swap (snagged a late model Cherokee one for $100 with front DS)
All new cooling system and tune up. Swap all fluids out for new and go through everything. $330 with trans cooler and all new parts.
Interior-LED lights $75
Vinyl wrap all of the ugle fake wood to something nicer looking -$40
Repair damaged fender and peeling hood - $160

All in I am looking to be around $4500 for everything which I think will be a good price for a clean long arm lifted niner with an 8.8 and everything running perfect. Let me know what you guys think!

Here she is right after putting it on the road-

Here is the inside, it was really well kept IMO

Pile of parts and new fender-

Last picture for now, My baby 2003 Rubi on 35s with metal cloaks. The reason for the niner is to keep this in the garage in the winter and rock this on the beach and upstate in the summer.

I wonder if an AM linkage would make it better? Most of these Tcases are a PITA, I have had jeeps with everything from a 231, 241, 242, and 249 lol and they all fight you one way or another.

Looks like you'll have a pretty nice 5.9 for a really good price. Keep us updated.

Thanks guys! Some stuff started arriving this week. I got the radiator and trans cooler. Next weekend I am going to try and tear into the whole cooling system and get that going along with an oil change. As soon as the truss arrives I will have my friend weld that up. I am prob going to order the lift and remaining items this Friday.

After a nice wash. Cleans up damn good. This is the first time I washed it since the winter. Full detail will happen after I have the hood repainted and fix the fender.

Stripped off all of the POs stickers from the rear window and added my own.

Your 5.9 is looking great! Now want to come over and help work on mine?

Look forward to getting the lift on the way to you!

The most jealous person ever right here... i paid 1900 for my laredo with 220k on it at the time (they're all junk around here if under 1500). I kind of hate you...

I forget where, but they make a cable shifter for the 242 which, apperantly makes it shift between gears almost perfectly.... im really looking forward to getting it myself.

Its pretty annoying having to slam the brakes and back up 50 ft or so with the lady friend in the jeep to get it out of 4 wheel lol.

Mini update- The radiator started leaking really badly today so I parked the jeep and took the top off the TJ. Tomorrow is going to be 65 so it worked out just fine. The radiator and trans cooler are here just waiting on the water pump and t stat. I will tear into it this weekend and get the cooling system all buttoned up along with an oil change.

Also got board last night and started experimenting with some vinyl on the "wood" trim. I hate the fake wood look and wanted to do something different. I think it looks cool for a first attempt. I am going to take the time and do all the trim nice before I put it back together after doing the heater core.....

Sorry nothing exciting just yet. I will keep this updated as time goes by. This way it motivates me to get it done in a timely manner lol.

Yeah I think Novak makes the cable. Well see if I go that route, if its that much of a PITA I will. Yeah most 1000 ZJS around here are not to nice ether but I snagged this up quick. I had a nice one before this that has only 100k on it I got for 900 lol. I seem to get lucky with jeeps.....

i wish i could have traded you my door panels and dash wood before you did that. I think the 5.9's have a darker wood. And i really want the door panels with wood.

I kinda like the fake wood.

**edit. You need the door panels though cause power seats and stuff... forgot the niners have those

Yeah it is the Novak. I googled again lol.

I dont get to lucky, well. I bought mine off an old man, so high miles yes but he seems to have taken good care of it and it has a new trans and transfer case with like... 45k on it now. About due to flush the fluids again.
