I suspect that this procedure is the same as guys who work on vacuum-tube sockets in guitar amps, etc. They use a pick to close the female contact diameter in order for them to fit tighter around the pins. They work the pick behind the contact, and lever it in towards the center, thereby decreasing the diameter, and tightening the fit. It's easier than expanding the pins.

It's good to know that it's probably not advisable to remove and replace the PCM plugs from the PCM any more than absolutely necessary.
