Quieter ZJ

hey guys,

just a random question for the sunday..

how can i make the ZJ quieter?

i looked at the door panels and there is some kinda noise dampening stuff....im not too bothered about road and wind noise-my problem is mainly with engine noise coming into the cabin(northing wrong with it just the regular noise). how can i make it quieter? is there some material i can line up the hood and the engine bay with?

thanks,

thats a good question. you could take out your dash and dynamat the inside of the firewall. or take our your engine and rhino-line the engine bay and maybe put some speaker carpet underneath the hood. put none of those ideas are practical or flame retardant.

Dynamat hoodliner would probably be the easiest solution. http://www.dynamat.com/products_auto...hoodliner.html
You can find it on Ebay for a fair price.

As a matter of fact I will buy dynamat hoodliner for my ZJ. My factory hoodliner got soaked in a water crossing and fell apart.

thanks for the replies..

i will try dynomat.....to be honest... we already have so much of noise here in our city...i don't want to listen to it anymore.... and the engine is too coarse at 75mph...2200rpm

one another question--what is the black thing lining the underside of the hood? is that some sorta noise dampner?

Try running the exhaust with straight pipe instead of a mufler.. then the sound will trail out the back alot quieter and wont be trapped in the muffler.

-noise dampener
-makes it look good
-heat shield to protect paint on hood

those are the 3 most common responses to your question... take your pick

the black thing under the hood...

where can i get a new one? dealter stealer?

i have noticed that it is peeling and maybe that is why i have increased noise in the cabin.....

thanks

edit: found it online...but just wanted to know if i can put some more sound proofing stuff under the heat shield?

I would suggest new exhaust system, some interior matting, and replace your carpet with a thick insulation underneath running up behind your dash. I've done this before in my mustangs and it works amazingly well. All my mustangs have been terribly loud and shaky due to all the motor mods, and at first it was cool, but after awhile the heat/noise/vibrations would take their toll. New carpet with thick matting and some door matting worked better than expected. Also replace any door/window seals that could be worn or sagging.

If this doesnt work, buy a honda!

I don't think another hood insulator would be...
A. solving your problem with noise in your cabin
B. a good way to spend over 100+ dollars.

98ZJ dave...what do you recommend for a solution then?

has anyone dynamatted their jeep before?

I dont have a fancy stereo or antyhing...all i want it a little quiet when driving the jeep... and the clear coat on the hood has already peeled off...so I guess I cant do nothing much about the hood paint heat protection...

Thanks,

you can also spray some sound dampening material on the underside and if possible the firewall.

way too much to list.
Thought for the day:
If GOD gave HIS only son for us...can't we at least give HIM an hour of our time a day.
