Putting a 5.9 back in my 5.9 ???

so i have a grand cherokee 5.9 limited, when i bought it (dirt cheap) it needed engine work (it was poorly maintained by previous owners ) at the time i did not have the time or money to fix the motor and i needed the jeep for the winter, so i made a deal with my father he had a 99 dodge ram with a 5.2 and he wanted a 5.9 so i sold him my engine and got his 5.2 as part of the deal (i know i regret doing it) so the swap was very easy only had to swap exhaust manifolds, starter and had to get a zj 5.2 ds motor mount. now its been a couple years and im wanting to get another 5.9 for my jeep (i'd love to build a 408 stroker someday) so here is my question for you guys i tried researching it but im getting conflicting answers. i have another project, a 1993 dodge ram with a 5.9 magnum engine i have decided to pull out the 5.9 and swap in a cummins diesel. now can i use my 93 magnum 5.9 obd1 engine in my 98 obd2 zj. i am very familiar with dodge and Chrysler vehicles. i know it will bolt in fine and swapping sensors is not a problem my biggest concern is the flex plate & torque convertor. i know my original 5.9 zj motor had a weight on the flex plate (yes it had a weight and the 5.2 did not) but did they move the weight from the tc to the flex plate when they came out with the magnum engine or when they went to obd 2? has any one every swapped a 95 or older 5.9 into their 96+ ZJ? any thoughts would be great guys if there is anything else i need to worry about let me now thanks in advance

i would like to say you guys are dedicated i have a 4L zj and a stroked 4L cj7 but this morning my brother and i pulled a 318 out of a limited zj and put it back in cause the factory freeze plugs rotted out in the back of the motor and it wasn't fun. sure the v8 power plant FITS in the GC but i perfer the inline motor eventhough the ponys you can push are limited.

how much more balls are you gonna gain from the swap? or are you doing cause you have it and can???

83 cj7, white/pearl w/ black trim - 99'ax-15/clocked dana 300 twin sticked - 4"RC lift - HD shackles - 33X10.5 bfg mt's on micky' T 15" classic 2s - HD tierod flipped - custom bumpers with d-rings - winch - flowmaster - obd1 efi swap - 4.6L strocker with com smooth idle cam. soon to be:
rear disc brakes, front and rear tube fender flares and better sliders, 3.0L mercedes turbo diesel power

So, why do you "Perfer" to have less HP and torque?

its not that at all i'm happy with the 4L but i'm kick myself in the as for not buying my buddys wrecked v8 zj running gear for my cj7 though. the 5.2 and 5.9 are great motors but personaly i think its kinda cramped in the GC. they run long for instance my brother has 97 dodge 1500 with over 225,000 miles and the thing runs great. all i was saying is its a bit more time comsuming to service those motors in the grand cherokee cause of the space.

Ehhh, I understand what you're talking about. Next time you're playing with that V8 ZJ, change the cap and rotor on it. Almost impossible unless you have Stretch Armstrong as a buddy.

The torque increase from a 4.0 to a 5.2 is noticeable, and it's even more noticeable when you go to a 5.9...It's definitely worth it.

I thought the 93 didnt come with a 5.9 magnum. Especially since the 5.2 Came out in 92 & the 5 9 in 94.

'97 zj 5.2, some stuff, some other suff, and some things that even work sometimes.

93 was the first year for the magnum 5.9 and it was the last year of the old body style so finding one is almost impossible luckily I happen to have one in my garage and it only has 140 000kms on it
