Painting my Grill?

Hey guys! I want to repaint the black vents on my front grill because they are starting to get a bit faded. My Jeep is silver so i need to mask everything off. What is the best way to clean and prep and whats th e best to use to clean it? Also for my paint choice? i want to keep it black. any suggestions in brands or paint color like satin or gloss? i wast leaning toward rustolium satin black. but i know that krylon has a plastic paint. any tips are appreciated thanks guys

I painted the front of the fins in my grill gold to match the pin stipeing and emblems..it looks real nice, but then a deer hit me and the grill was replaced.. i have yet to re-do them gold, but am planning to.

Tape it and use ammonia to clean it real well. Steel wool - fine/med. fine grit will rough it up so the paint sticks. If it's plastic like mine is, use krylon fusion satin black will be good, won't be too shiny, three coats.

Depending on your jeep model, it shouldn't be that hard to remove the grill for painting. This would eliminate the need for masking or making potentially painful booboo's on the Jeep. It also allows for you to orient the grill however you want it, thus making the painting process easier and more thorough in the hard spots.

He's talking about just painting the fins in the grille not the actual outer portion of the grille itself.

Yes definately pull it off, when I responded 'Tape it' before I meant tape the areas you don't want to paint. Getting it off the rig is definately idea for doing the job - of course based on the model it can be easy or it can be tough.

If you want to paint it the same color, go to www.paintscratch.com and order the spray cans to match the color of your jeep.

yep the Krylon is the best to use. just rough up the surface and blow off all the dust wipe it down and paint (you probably dont need amonia but if you want go for it). if you want it more glossy put a gloss clear coat over it.

NO AMMONIA!

it'll damage the plastic.

Honestly, all you really should do is take it off, and clean it well (those steel wool pads with the soap work really well) and then just hit it with krylon fusion in your choice of color.

Installing HID's in stock housings is bad.
