New Guy with a '98 ZJ

Hi everybody,

My name is Terry. I found this '98 ZJ on CL and couldn't resist it for $450.

The price was low because the lady that had it was afraid of the noise in the front differential. (broken ring gear) It has the 4.0 six, quadratrac, and is bone stock.

I am planning upgrades to make it more capable off road like locker(s) tires and a small lift.

Welcome to JF!

Have fun with the upgrades! I had a 4.0 with the 242 and that thing was great in the snow!

Looks like it must be the LSE model (Laredo Special Edition). Nice find and awesome price! Congrats.

Oh, and Welcome to the Forum, GOLDWING!
I have a '95 GL1500.

Nice ZJ, and one heck of a deal, from the looks of it. I don't know anything about the LSE that was mentioned above. Does it have leather interior? I guess the LSE has the body-color cladding, but with the chrome grill, eh? Maybe you'll get "lucky", and the noise will be from something other than the differential. There are a few possibilities. Congrat's.

Hey kg6mov, are those special wheels for that edition (LSE), with the darker paint on the inside? I don't think that I've seen it. Of course, as I said, I am unfamiliar with any Laredo Special Edition.

Honestly, no ****ing clue.

There's very little info on the ZJ Laredo Special Edition in general. I've never seen canyons with color insets though. I know the TJ canyon has different paint than the ZJ canyon, but the difference is overall negligible. If I had to say, I would assume a PO got somebody to paint them to match.

But they're my color, and my favorite wheel, so I want them.

I doubt that you would want those wheels if you saw them up close. They are stock '98 ZJ wheels with Rust-oleum wheel paint covering all of the ugliness. They are no longer on the truck.

Those wheels look like the ones on my 96 stock Laredo. Know what you mean about them looking bad especially if you're in the salt/rust belt. Every chip in the clear coat, or where the wheel weights were moved from, and the road salt gets under there corroding the heck out of the aluminum.
