my zj build

ok guys i have started a new build 93 5.2 and have some question i have searched around and cant find what i want, im doing 8 lug axles not sure which set yet (i have a set off an excursion i got that are geared and locked and a set from an old yj build that i geared and locked just havent made up my mind yet) also building my own custom long arm set up, my question is can i order a set of 7 inch coils for the front from iro and put them on the rear for 10ish inches of lift? any help would be great

I'd like to have an answer for you but honestly, no one does that here. First of all it'd ride like a dump truck. My suggestion to you if you are going that high is to build coil over mounts and go that way.

I watched some Brit dude putting Uni-Mog axles under a ZJ on youtube. Might be a good person to msg. If I can find it again I will post a link.

Thanks Rob

As long as you have stock like weight distribution and coil mounts the rule of thumb that a coil is 3” taller when used in the rear will more or less hold true.

Like polka says, at that height most people would tend towards coilovers or similar.

that is what i was thinking but what hoping someone had done it before but i mean end up just doing 7 inch coils and long arms im really not wanting to go coilovers im trying to do a badass build on the cheaper side but still functionally if that makes since, like im not doing 4.5 inch springs with 3 inch spacer or nothing just trying to fab my own design like my yjs

Everything imaginable has been done to the ZJ, but nobody has ever done what you've done to your ZJ.

So yeah, people have run 10" lift worth of coil spring in the rear with long arms. Stock coil buckets on the body side. If that's what gets it done for your kind of wheeling, go for it. I think RE will even sell you a coil that long on purpose for the rear, Kolak would know.

Most of the builds around here are a lot lower, and a lot of the guys who ran huge lifts early on have gotten lower. A lot of coil is not necessarily the same as a lot of travel, which is also not the same as a lot of useable travel. If you've done the fab to build tons before then you should be fine. We suggest doing as much as you can within weight consideration to strengthen the unibody, before you take it out and bash it on the rocks. Plating the subframe rails and box tube rockers are good plans if you're not going full cage.

right i was only thinking that if i could do that i could cut down on cost some. i have done the fab work before on several projects and they worked great, once i remove all the factory mounts and such i plan to plate the frame rails and subframe and i will be building a set of rock tubes and bumpers once the lift is in place, no exo cage just a in cab roll cage since my daughter is going to be wheeling with me once i get it together in a few months

Yeah, that sounds like a solid plan for a nice rig.

Wander around the forums and read build threads. See what people do when they're new, see what they redo once they know better, look for mistakes you can avoid making.

I hope you guys wear helmets because knocking your noggin on some thick dom tubing can really ruin your life.
That's the main reason I'd want to exocage.
