Mousey Locker

I found a VERY clean 98 Laredo. Rust on the driveline components but VERY little rust on the body, floor , and sub frame. Super solid. Owner said it didn't always shift out of 1st gear and it had a ruptured brake line (rusted where the front passenger line went through the grommet in the inner fender. Around here, it's almost impossible to find ZJ's that aren't rusted all to hell. I couldn't test drive it, but I got to hear it run. It was wicked cheap and the guy even offered to deliver it. It was hard to get up under it in the guys yard, but I could see that the underside was solid, it started easily and ran well, so I bought it.
Fixed the brake line, took it for a drive to check out the trans and heard a wicked metal on metal sound up front.
Jacked it up, first, noticed there was no front driveshaft. Nice of them to tell me that. Then I noticed an obscene amount of play in the yoke on the back of the diff.
This was also not a good sign

Nice score on the ZJ!

Looks like a perfect opportunity to swap in a High pinion Dana 30 from an XJ!

still trying to get that axle out, still no luck.
I know I could just swap out the whole assembly, but I have no way to get an axle assembly home

well, figured it would be a good idea to ask for pics of the high pinion before making the 3 hour drive each way.

Yikes...

Just an FYI on the HP30 - XJs don’t use cam bolts in the lower control arms to set caster like the ZJ does, so you will need adjustable lower control arms to dial in your alignment.

Oh wow, than you SO much, I did NOT know that. That's an expense I can't handle right now. Right now I just need to get this on the road. Looks like I dodged a bullet on that one :]
