Great looking Jeep.....similar to my ‘96 JGC Orvis Edition. That 4 speed transmission is wonderful....shifts smooth as butter! I can’t say that about my new Altitude’s 8 speed transmission! I’ll be watching this one & good luck with the auction!

It's already at $8K, $10K isn't exactly a hot take LOL.

Thats just dumb. 5.9s are not considered "collectible" or "rare" cars in that world by any sense of the words. Something of an oddity being a one year model but nothing more. There are probably more than 70% of the original production still running around. I myself have seen three 5.9s in as good or better condition since the first of the year for between $3500 and $5000 with the one that sold for $5000 having 27k original miles with the only thing changed on it was the oil and the tires and those were even matched to factory originals. No rebuilt tranny, no dings or scratches in the paint or any of the other flaws posted in the listing.

I spent 1.5 years looking for a clean low mileage 5.9 and couldn't find one I could get home for my $6K budget.. wish I had seen the one with 27k you speak of.

This is all that matters... Can you find one of equal value for less? If not, you pay what is being asked. If it wasn't worth it to people, nobody would pay it.

I think half the reason it's hard to envision ZJs as sought after vehicles is because we're so used to seeing people gleefully destroy them. They've been worthless mud slingers for so long that it's hard to see what they were intended to be.

With age most things become more valuable as availability and condition become a factor. So the Mrs tells me..

I remember the days when nobody was drooling over Scramblers, Willy's, Camaro's and the like..

But there are those out there who think their clapped out 200k rusty 5.9 with Rough Country is a 5K vehicle..

Iíve had mine for 2 Ĺ years and havenít even seen another one on the road. A mechanic friend whoís been looking for a niner for a while hasnít had any luck. So I guess it depends on your definition of rare.

This is currently the only 5.9 for sale in Finland. 285000km -> ~180k miles, is more or less worn out and has some fugly details in it. 4500€, which is about 5000$.
https://www.nettiauto.com/jeep/grand-cherokee/10615959

Friend just bought a 5.9 that was otherwise in mint condition, but due to non-existing tranny maintenance had a pretty serious transmission failure. He paid 1700€ (~2k $) for it.

I would not hesitate paying 6-8k for a mint condition low-mile ZJ 5.9 which is all- original.
On the other hand, I've invested well over 10k on my niner with all the mods it has - if I got more than ~4k for it, I'd be happy. That's why I'm not selling it

Here in the rust prone north east US you will not find ANY ZJ in that condition, except for a very rare garage queen, much less a 5.9. I'd pay 5-6K for that one for sure. Most ZJs here now are sadly at the status of winter or beach beaters. That stupid cash for clunkers law that put low-rent people with no money in cars that they could not afford got rid of a lot of them too.
