KOR 2.5" BB off, IRO 3" on, thoughts inside

So after I got my KOR 2.5 BB with black diamonds on the car, I wasn't too happy with the way it sat because it had more a rack look, which I'm not a fan of at all. My options were limited to what I could do because my shocks were limited out so I couldn't try to level out with UC springs like I was planning on doing. So I called up Derek at IRO and we talked while and I ended up buying their 3" kit with doestech shocks, the front springs were new, the rear springs were used and was from their previous supplier. I told him I didn't want the rack look, so he recommended these used springs, because the previous manufacter that supplied them with springs, sat lower then their current supplier.

Installation of the lift was pretty simple, no major road blocks, very nice kit, detailed instructions, and all the necessary hardware. The only problem I had was the sleeves for the bushings on the rear sway bar links had to be drilled out to fit the factory bolt they tell you to use.

The ride of the 3" lift is noticeably stiffer then the BB, Derek told me that doestech's ride pretty good, and they're ok. After reading on here about coils and BB, it seemed everyone agree's that coils ride better then BB, WRONG. The BB rode EXACTLY like stock, at least with the black diamonds they did. The Jeep definitely feels more stabile on the highway as suppose to the BB, I think the combination of the stiffer coils and a track bar help out a lot.

Overall I'm happy with the kit, IRO builds a very nice kit and would recommend it to anyone looking for a decent height without going sky high. Next on order is disco's and SS. No pics yet, I'll take some in a little while, so I'll post up my BB and IRO pics.

I just did the same swap, but I went from a 2" BB with the Doestech DT8000s to IRO 3" coils with Procomp MX6s...

It's not the coils that are making it feel stiffer, trust me, it's the shocks. With my BB and DT8000s the ride sounds about what you're describing your ride as now... pretty firm. With the 3" coils and MX6s, the ride is definitely better.

Hmm, well then the black diamonds ride better then the DT's. I've heard that out of the IRO kit, the doestech's ride pretty good. I don't feel like changing the shocks either for a 3rd time so I guess I will stick it out for a while then change em out later down the road.

Is everything just stiff because it is new and not really broken in yet or does that not really happen with a suspension lift?

Doesnt the IRO site say their springs are 20% stiffer for no sag? I have them in the front of my ZJ and they are stiffer than stock.

I would like to switch them out, but I like the bumpstop on the DT's so I'll probably stick it out and see how they work. I'm sure everything will soften up a little after they're broken in (I hope). I would definitely recommend the IRO kit over the BB, just make sure if you want "like stock" ride, I'd go for either the MX6's or the black diamonds.

I'm going to agree with MSU on this one, the harshness that you are experiencing is due to your shocks.

The DT shocks aren't bad for the money, but compared to some of the better quality options out there they ride pretty stiff.

great post I'm thinking of taking off the bb and going with the 4 IRO coils. One question my shocks are skyjacker hydro 7000 and are fit for up to a 3 inch lift, do you think they would be ok for thje 4 coils? they are brand new thats why i was wondering.

Nice, if I had the money I'd have gone that route too. First off your coils will break in and second those shocks are pretty stiff. Run them for a while and then pick up some better ones and you should feel some definite improvement. Coils are better than a BB, you just gotta get your set up dialed in

Excellent job. I remember discussing this with you a while back. Nice ride. Just be careful of stopping at intersections - random babes will be clawing at the side of your rig and may scratch the paint.
