Theres a harness connector right in the door jam... did you really look into it? it the most simple thing.

not sure if it would be easier to unbolt the hinges from the door or unbolt the hinges from the pillars..

Doesn't sound safe, or very appealing.

its perfectly safe ( look at wranglers ) but your right.. not very appealing on a ZJ... especially a stock ZJ

i guess its his vehicle though so

if i were you i would take a close look at the door hinges and unbolt from the side that will make it the easiest to get them back on and in alignment

Well if your going to do that I would suggest looking into some soft doors. kinda like wranglers have. like a half door or something. That way you can store em in the back of the jeep without weighing it down. I dunno, just a thought. Good luck, post pics when done.

thats just waiting for someone to coem and steal something out of your car... If you have anything valuable like a radio or something, dont do it. Whats wrong with rolling down the window?

i was expecting to get flamed a little, but wow.
ive looked for half doors awile back and couldnt really find any soft doors.
profile isnt updated, not stock anymore. 2inch IRO BB for now, 30 9.50 cooper sts.
good thing someone reminded me not to leave anything valuable in my car with no doors! i totally would have forgotten that.
just doing it to do it i guess. why not?
probably just do the front two anyhow.

on trunks i think i saw an all steel armrest(with lock) that has a spot for your radio. So you can store all your stuff in there.

Is it legal to not have doors?

The hinges are easy to take off, dont be afraid to put some muscle into the bolts. The hub connecters on the other hand are a PITA. The torx head is in the middle of the hub, surrounded by wires. Im pretty sure the torx head is a T25. Be careful with the wires though, they can break, and its not fun to fix.

Here are some threads that will help since almost everybody else seems to in unfriendly mode. Searching is also helpful. I found some pics and write-ups that should help you do it.

Dont go hatchless unless you Reinforce your unibody somehow.

The unibody WILL flex without it on there. Ask me how I know...

Takin the doors off is good tho. Just Take out the screw holding the wiring harness on , then get a pneumatic ratchet with a big extension and do it. It helps to have the windows down. Id just do the front two. . .All 4 looks kinda silly.

The way to go is half doors. Go to the junk yard and buy some $30-50 doors and then cut them. Measure about 4 inches in from the mirror and 4 inches from the back at the window edge and four inches upform the molding then cut. I then went at 45 degree angles form the meeting point to the molding. On the inside I only left 1 inch. The 1 inch inside was cut every 4-5 inches and folded down then the outside was folded onto that small shelf. I went to Advanced bought some door ding guard and cover up the rough edges. I should be adding Diamond Plate to toughen in up. Then Electric. I am only doing the front doors. You need the electric in the drivers door to get the rear windows to still work. By doing this you get some protection, some security, and some style(good or baddepending on your view) If you go to the Zj pic and search half door you will see mine. It is still green and the Jeep is Black, but all in good time. Or check out my profile and it is pictured there as well. ****Note all measurements are approximations and do not yell at me if you needed 6 inches instead of 4 inches Please. But I love the half door and it is an eye catcher!
