Green 98 ZJ (Unique Build Thread)

When I got my jeep a couple years ago, I had no idea what I was going to build it up to be. Now, I realize I have almost put 2000 dollars into it and could easily spend twice that in a heartbeat, thanks to the forums for all the knowledge that I've learned. I figured a build thread would help me keep track of where I began on the heap and would end up being useful to people that read it.
Hopefully the build thread will be more interesting and updated more often in the near future, as funds and school don't allow for the real upgrades at the moment.

Now, the reason I'm calling this the "unique" build thread is because the main goal for this jeep is to find all of the rare/uncommon crap that was produced for the ZJs, and slap it on this 98. I think it's going to prove to be quite the challenge, and that's why I'm doing it. I figured if I'm going to modify the jeep, I might as well make it an oddball jeep, versus the "typical" build. There's almost 10 modded ZJs where I'm at, and they're all basically the same.

Here's the deets on the jeep-

1998 Laredo 4.0
Tow prep 373 axle ratio
Pretty much sums it up

Here's the measly upgrades I've done so far-

3 inch BB with adj. track bars (to future jeep noobs out there, go with a 2 inch BB if your a cheap son of a gun like me, no questions asked)

31x10.5 AT tires

Ax15 swap using a donor 93 ZJ, my favorite and most expensive.

231 t case with the ax15

Basically what I'm going for is a capable trail/camping/weekend warrior that I can drive on the freeway when I need to, and be loaded with as many rare/hard to find ZJ part/accessories as I can get my hands on.

Here's what I'm looking at for suspension/steering-

3.5-4.5 inches of lift (IRO most likely)
Adj. short arms
31-32 inch tires
IRO OTK steering
Durango steering box swap and brace
HP Dana 30 if it's a 373 geared already
Anything but the Dana 35( probly D44a with the LSD to keep things simple)

Engine upgrades-

Very small turbocharger running 5 pounds of boost or less, setup similar to TurboTPI.

Injectors/99 manifold

Get my computer reprogrammed to finally truly accept that the 42re has divorced it, and is never coming back, no matter how many codes it throws at me

Rebuild the the ax15 eventually, damn thing takes quite a bit of finesse to drive

After spending almost half a year trying to find a 5 speed ZJ and finally getting a hold on one, I've wanted to see what other parts I could find.
There seems to be a lot of goofy oddball parts out there. I don't expect to find all of them, but it will be fun trying.

So far I've gotten the 5 speed and the recently high trending cup holder insert

Currently on the lookout for-
A JY 5.9, rob the good stuff off of it
Lockable storage box
Rear tire carrier
Other small stuff I can't seem to remember now, if anybody wants to chime in and name off any other parts I would appreciate it.

That's about it

When I had my ax15 out for a clutch replacement I replaced the bushing at bottom of shifter stick and it became much easier to get in gear.
It's a truck/van tranny originally so it will never shift like a sports car. I don't find that it takes "finesse " with the shifter tightened up , but it will always have really long throw and is a little slow to find the synchro.

Also check your shifter mounting bolts, mine were working loose.

the trans is just a little worn out, it had some naaasty oil in it, needs new syncros eventually, and looking at the jeep it came out of, I'm not surprised one bit.

thanks! There's something that I'm not too terribly interested in is the sound bar. Id assume go custom on the sound system.

I bet a BB would suit you just fine honestly. I'm 5'8" and I can see a 2 inch lift being plenty for you.

thanks for the offer, that's something else that isn't a huge loss for me. If I see one at the JY, it's a 50/50 I would take it.
