CB Radio in a WJ

I'm wanting to mount a CB in my WJ but can't seem to find a good place for one. Nor have I bought one either. I would like to hear what other guys have done and what radios you used.

I just can't seem to find a logical spot in my WJ so please help! Thanks

Josh

Check out this company. The guy is really great to deal with, and hes got some great products. This kit should do an awesome job. It'll fit behind your dash. Won't even be able to tell you have one.

I just use a Midland 40 channel handheld, it's awsome from trial runs because it's mobile but the distance is only good for a few miles, so if you want to use it out on the interstate or something it wouldn't be the best choice, I think it cost me about $35.

This radio is the way to go!
I have one and this is the third vehicle I have had it in! still working after several years of service!

Its compact you can mount the box for the unit under the seat and run it between the seat and the console like I have it. Or some guys mount the box under the dash and and mount the mic on the dash.

This is the ideal radio if your passenger doesn't want to listen to the radio. or you play your music loud. I have it so it runs between the seat and I drape the cord up over my shoulder and rest the mic on my shoulder bye my ear. I can keep the volume low and the squelch high and forget about it.. play my music and still hear the activity on the road.

Its the best radio In my opinion. reception and transition is clear. never had any complaints from anybody I have talked to.

This is what the plain radio costs with out the "kit" Price it out both ways see whats better for you!

I've had a couple Uniden PC-76XL radios and they work GREAT! As for mounting it, I just shoved it between the console and the passenger seat and that always worked well even during some really hardcore wheeling. As for the handheld units, you can't beat their size but you can't get alot of power out of them. With a simple peak and tune (about $20 around here), it's easy to net about 20-30 watts. Plus with a full size unit you can add a roger beep, talkback, echo, and sound effects boards.

I mounted my Radio Shack CB with the bracket it came with, under the dash by my left knee. The antenna is in the door jam going back to the cargo area in the rear. The DC (mic) for the cb rests very naturally in between the steering column and the tilt lever. It works out nice for me.

I had the same dilemma. I found a cobra 75 for 60 bucks. I made a bracket for the antena and attached it under the rear tail light with self tapping screws. I mounted the little box with velcro under my dash and ran the wires through an existing hole in my firewall by my amp wires. I tucked the antenna wire under the center consle the ran it under the rear passenger side mat, then under the seat and along the rear left cargo side to the mat. I'll take final pics for you if you would like.

I hate how that bracket messes up the alignment of the light in the back.

I think What I might do is put the atenna in the front where the existing radio antenna is. I've seen a couple splitters that enable the use of a firestick for both CB and radio. Anyone know of any complications to doing this?

Also, anyone have any thoughts as to how I could mount the firestick where the Radio antenna currently is?

you never even notice that the light isn't aligned right. its barely off. I think you might pick up a lot of engine noise mounting it there. where are you going to run the antenna??? It may look a little funny as well. If you complete it though i would like to see pictures. I think i've came across people doing that try searching this and the electrical forums.

On a ZJ I know, but it's the same thing.

Hadn't considered the engine noise, good idea though. I wonder what other people have done who have mounted them near the engine bay. Anticrombie? Get any engine noise?

I had thought about replacing the radio antenna, and putting the firestick there. That way only one antenna for everything. There are splitters available that enable the use of your CB antenna for both CB and AM/FM.

JC- Where'd you get that mounting bracket? I also like that alot. That way it doesn't interfere with the light at all.

Did any of you guys get quick disconnects? I dunno what they look like so I can't tell from the pics.
