Cargo area storage...

So I have been toying with the idea of building a storage compartment deal in the cargo area. I would probably do it in a few weeks once school is out. I want to do something that is the size of the whole area and tall enough for the spare tire to sit flat in in the middle of the cargo area and then use the space around it to keep all the little stuff I have back there like a socket set, jack, etc. My first idea was to do something like SkyjacktZJ did with a shelf type thing.

But then I decided that would take up almost any other cargo space for luggage and things like that.

So I looked some more and found this one that an XJ guy built. I like this one better because it sits lower, and it is closed and cleaner looking. I could put the stuff in there and the clutter would be completely hidden, while still keeping a clear platform other stuff.

But then my only real concern, was getting anything out if there was stuff on top. So I got to thinking and really want to do a fullsize drawer that would hold the tire and other stuff, but would slide out for easy access even when the back is full. Like this guy did.

It won't let me post the IMG urls for these pictures but this is really what I want to do.

My major concern about doing the drawer however is the tracks. Figuring out how to get strong enough tracks to hold possibly 200lbs, and come out far enough...without spending a ridiculous amount of money.

Anyway, sorry for the long post, but what do yall think? Any ideas or suggestions?

I like the ZJ one but only if it was fully enclosed in the front like the XJ one. Maybe a door in the front to close it all off.

Actually, this is more of a general discussion for everyone. Could a mod move this to GD when you get a chance please.

I like the GC one. I will eventually do that once I figure something out with my subs. You could make a door that covers the front and then attaches to the hatch when open.

Im surprised noone like the drawer one on that YJ. The one that SkyjactZJ did is pretty much out of the question now. It just wouldn't really work for me. Takes up too much space in a bad way.

Whatever you do, make sure you attach it to the floor somehow. You do NOT want that as a projectile in a crash/roll.

FWIW, I like the drawer idea! Easy access w/o removing stuff on top. Lowe's/ HD has drawer slides that should work easy, or just a box on small casters, kinda like a trundle bed.

I don't crash. Yea I will. I learned about that when my mom rolled her trailblazer into a marsh. Luckily the hitch and other heavy things in back flew out a window though.

This is FortCollinsZJ's(Niel's). Its sweet but kinda massive. I would love to do it like this full width and a do a big drawer then 2 little cubbys on the sides. But hoping I could make it a little less tall. Even just like an inch or two. I'll have to just measure and see everything.
