Brand New CV Axle is Clicking

Hello:

Over this past weekend, I installed a new CV Axle (this one: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AAZ-66-3220/) and a new Tekton hub on the drivers side.

The install went fine. No issues whatsoever.

This week, when driving at low speeds, usually when pulling away from the curb or out of a parking space, I am hearing clicking that is definitely coming from the new CV axle.

Any ideas? Is it defective or did I likely miss something?

Thanks in advance.

- Matt

I should add that there have been no issues whatsoever except at low speed with the wheel cranked to one side or the other. Highway/city driving is 100% normal.

That sounds like mine did when it was on its way out. Is the boot ripped? I've replaced 3 CVs thus far and a clicking noise is definitely a tell that they're going. It very well could have been defective. At least it's a fairly simple install/removal.

Thanks for the reply.

Basically I am wondering if anyone can think of anything I could have done wrong, that would cause the symptoms I described. It is such an easy procedure, that I can't imagine anything I could have missed.

For me, the clicking was happening because of a separation in the axle itself.

I had the exact same thing a few years back on a reman axle that was installed. I drove it up until a few weeks ago when the boot ripped. Go figure, putting another one in, the clicking disappeared. Sounds like it really is a hit and miss on these axles.

The other axle actually does have a torn boot. However when I hear the clicking, I can almost feel the binding in the floor under my feet, which leads me to believe it is the new one.
