98 zj NP 242 transfer case problems

I was driving on the turnpike home when I started getting a crazy vibration in the jeep, thought I had a flat tire. pull over to the side of the road and tires are fine. I limped it off the turnpike and pulled it over to look underneath. the caps on my rear drive shaft (closest to transfer case) u joints had exploded off. I got it towed home and looked a little harder and my transfer case was all cracked. right where it bolts to the transmission. trans was still fine being that it was still going in to drive and shifting. I now have it at a shop and they are saying its some sort of adapter plate in between the trans and transfer case. does anyone know what this is called? I will be swapping transfer case too and just making sure the np 242 is the correct tcase. trying to end the year with the jeep no broken, hopefully I can get this done today.

thanks,

george
