5.2 problem

I have a 95 5.2 grand cherokee with 217k miles that won't stay running when i put any sort of load on the engine. It starts and idles and revs fine when in neutral or park but if I put it in any gear or turn the wheel it dies. There are also no codes. I've replaced the iac sensor, the egr valve, it has new spark plugs and wires, new fuel filter and pump, I've searched the forums and all other posts I've seen say to replace everything I've already done so now I'm stumped

Did you clean the carbon out of the throttle body? What brand IAC? What shape is the battery in(load tested?). Have you addressed the plenum gasket issue?

Yes I did clean out the throttle body when it was out, I believe the brand for the iac was walker. I will check the battery cause it is probably pretty old and it doesn't get driven much so lately I have to jump it to even get it started. I haven't heard of the plenum gasket so I'll have to look into that

Checked the battery and it is a little weak, reads about 11.5 volts sitting but still starts the car, at least for the moment. It is 3 years old so I think I'll replace it regardless. Also checked the plenum gasket and that seems fine

How did you check the plenum?

I just did a quick check by looking into the intake manifold to see if there was oil pooling in there but didn't go as far to check vacuum. But I also don't have any of the other symptoms of a bad plenum gasket.

But I did finally get a check engine light and got code 12 and 22 which both seem to be low battery voltage related

5.2 problem

Did you look to the rear of the intake with the throttle body off?
It's more rare to not have a plenum leak than to have one.

So I do have what I'd call an oil residue in the intake manifold but no pooling or anything like that. But started the jeep up today and the idle is a little inconsistent now and if I blip the throttle, the engine almost dies and then revs up, and if I put it in gear it almost dies then goes back to normal

5.2 problem

How about the TPS? A failing TPS almost stalled on me when I went to pass on the highway. I pressed the pedal and the opposite happened. I had to feather it gently to gain any acceleration. It would also almost stall at stop lights.
Besides the plenum gasket, oil also gets back to the intake through the pvc return. I noticed that on my 5.9 after I repaired the plenum and cleaned the intake spotless and I still saw some oil. I put a catch can on it.

I'm wondering how you started it with 11.5 volts?

So I've just resorted to just replacing anything I think could be the issue, cause it's old and I bought it at 217k miles so I figure it couldn't hurt. I'm ordering a new plenum gasket, a new distributor, a crankshaft position sensor, more new spark plugs, a throttle position sensor, and I'm getting a new battery. Anything else I should replace while I'm in there or anything else that may be causing my woes?

If you have not yet cleaned your engine bay grounds, I would make that the first move.
It is necessary maintenance and may well save you money on parts that you did not need.

Good idea. I'll add that to the list of things to check/clean
