249 to 207 swap?

My buddy is upgrading from his '86 XJ (2.8 L's of thunder) to something newer with a 4.0. He said I can have his old TC (NP207) for some of the work I did trussing his front axle and building his front bumper. I haven't read about any swap of this nature so I assume it isn't as straight forward as the 249-->242 swap, if even possilble. Any ideas? Oh yeah, it was behind a 5 speed also.

The NP 207 is designed for smaller displacement engines. I dont think it would be strong enough to hold up even to the 4.0 plus its only 260:1 and your 249 is a 272:1 (as is 231 and 242)

Not worth it in my opinion..

You should be able to find a 231 or 242 that will swap right in for cheap at local slavage yard. That IS worth swapping.

IMO if you 249 works just keep it.

I hope he meant dirty and not purdy... I'm a poet and didn't know it.
