1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Exhaust Question
So I'm kind of new to the Jeep world. I recently bought a 96 Grand Cherokee and the guy that had it basically used it as a toy. The exhaust is cut off right after the catalyic converter, making it loud. I was thinking about buying a stock exhaust and just finishing things out to make it sound half way decent. I know this is probably a stupid question but can you use pipe from a v6 or does it have to be a v8? Does the size differ?
Well, none of the ZJs came with a V6 so... The I6 (4.0 straight 6) has a smaller factory exhaust than the V8, or at least it does on the 93-95; I'm fairly sure the 96-98 are the same. If you have the V8 buy V8 parts. If you have the I6 you can use the V8 parts from the cat back for a bit extra flow. IMS there are a couple cheap cat back options out there too.
EDIT: I mean that 96-98 are the same as 93-95 in that the V8 has bigger pipes, not that the 96-98 are the same size for the V8 and I6. Just reread it and it wasn't clear.
ask Kolak for some help if you want. He is ZJ guru and parts master. [email protected]
