Needing some advice for a Christmas gift for my cousin that's enlisting into the Navy. I figured I could get him something that he could use through basic or along those lines.

Not sure if this is even the right thinking. What do you informed individuals think?

Adopt your pets. Don't shop for them.

I was thinking of a fixed blade knife but I don't know how useful that would be. I like your ideas. Any decent tac bags?

That's art! The sad thing is i know people who probably wouldn't wait till they were miles out in the middle of nowhere to use it........

IMO, having been through Basic, AIT, Jump School, RIP

Get him a decent LARGE tactical bag and send him something small - food, magazines, etc - every month.

I got this for my son for school. Its overkill, but I'll never need to by it again. http://www.511tactical.com/rush-24-backpack.html

Alright. Tac bag it is. Is the one you got for your son a giant SOB or just right for what he needs in terms of the military.

Anything particular that you would've liked to see in a care package?

It's too big for his needs in 8th grade but for high school it should be ok.

Care packages cookies chips junk food. Etc.

10-4. Found them under $100 on Amazon. Only problem is I want to get one for myself now. Which isn't justifiable because I already have a laptop bag, camera bag and a nice internal frame bag from BPS that I use for everything. As well as a fanny pack I used to use to haul my camera stuff on hikes.

Sorry about the short reply I was at a dinner.

The tac pac is very large. I wish I would have had one when I was in the military just to stow my civilian clothes and/or for use on bivouac. On deployments he may be able to stuff it in his C bag but I've been out for so long now, I honestly don't know what the regs are much less the navy regs.

I used to get Nutter Butters, VW car magazines (ya I was into the air cooled back in the 80s) and hard candy. Hard candy is the infantry soldiers lifeblood. A quick thirst quencher that gives you a burst of sugar, and its easily storable and shareable. Jolly ranchers were the best, but werthers originals and then the cheezy resturaunt mints - anything individually wrapped.

If you want to make his year, find out his hobby and get him a 12 month subscription. Have them sent to you and you mail them in care packages. That way, if he is reassigned, he still gets the magazines. I cant tell you how many magazine subscriptions came to the baracks for guys that had left. They never got forwarded.. just the way it is.

In my line of work, I can sometimes get stuff like this practically free. My sons was only $55 for me, but it was a show sample and had small tear in the inside web pocket - no big deal.

If I come across a deal like that again, I'm snagging it. Great GP bag for the trails etc. My LJ has the molle seat covers on the front seats as well as on the tailgate, so a bag like this for my recovery gear would look the part..

I'll let you know if a deal too good to pass up comes along - more easily justified...

check out l.a. police gear. they offer their own line of gear, and the quality is surprisingly good.

this is their 3 day pack, similar to the one post above.

I really need some air compressor help. I have a Sears compressor that I have been using for 30+ years and it needs a new pump.
I can't stand the new oil less ones.
I found new pumps but I'm not sure about the plumbing. I can take pics if needed.

Anyone knowledgeable with air compressors?

A Law repugnant to the Constitution is void. Marbury vs. Madison 1803 I'm talking to you, Virginia...
