The weirdos never left, this is just a new generation. Ever been to "The Slabs"? It's all Salton Sea area. Bombay Beach is on the eastern side, about the middle N to S along the sea. Slabs is just a few miles south. Takes a hearty constitution to survive down there, and it is my opinion that more than a few are running from something.

Good wheeling is available along the area between the sea and up into the Chocolate Mtns. But go in the winterish months.

Spent many many a Sept 1st hunting doves around the Salton Sea. Drive down in the wee hours of the night before, in the relative cool. Shoot a limit in the morning and get the hell out before the 2pm heat. It's still the best dove hunting in CA. But I'm kinda over that now, since we have to use the abomination known as non-lead shot. {spits in disgust}

I miss good dove hunting. Although we are still allowed to use lead, the bird patterns have changed here in PA. We haven't seen good hunting in more than a decade. We have traveled all over the state looking for good hunting and just haven't found it.

I also don't seem to go off-road as much as in the past, and not the harder stuff as years ago. I'm not selling my Jeep or anything (am just tired, not crazy).

I also bought a new camera, a Nikon Z6, which adds another way to drain my spare cash. It's the first Nikon for me, sold all my Canon stuff on eBay. Since that May purchase, I hang out way more at NikonCafe.Com than JF. I'll still be in and out of JF, though I'm likely done paying for it.
The forum speed here drove me nuts. I have viasat internet which was originally exede internet. It is the middle of nowhere satellite option. I finally downloaded the Viasat browser. Big difference.

I am a Nikon guy myself. Photography is an amazing hobby. Been in and out of it several times in my life. Had lots of exposure and stuff to dark rooms and professionals. Now it is all digital which is cool. It brings the cost down from film because you don't have to develop all the pics. I can respect the guy who got distracted by a Nikon though.

You are an asset to the forum. So bring your grumpy butt in here and chime in from time to time. @Luuca got accused of being the person making up for your grumpiness. I personally think that I am way grumpier than Luuca but have to work on my image because I am considered to be more of an a-hole than just friendly grumpy. I am not sure how you guys pull that off. I will eventually master the craft or be banned for life though. LOL.

We usually go to superstition for the rocks; never been on the far side of the lake and never heard anyone mention wheeling over there but interested in finding out about it. Everyone is obsessed with truckhaven which is just dirt piles as far as I can see.

No, but I don't rock crawl either.

Years ago I did the run up Salt Creek Wash, which runs from the Coachella canal (lock 22 IIRC) north to the I-10. This was BJD (before Jeep days). It has a common off-roader name now but I've forgotten it. Anyway, lots of RR and mining stuff to see, and a lot of side canyons that need my exploration. The military bombs those mountains pretty regular which is entertainment enough too.

Got my own curiosity up on this, and had some time this morning to google.

I believe the route I ran is now called the Bradshaw Trail. Like everything it is getting all official now. This Four Wheeler article is from 2006 and some of the pics don't work anymore, but it is an interesting read, and if someone wanted to run it there are good directions to things to see.

http://www.fourwheeler.com/ultimate-...x4-jeep-trail/

I still think we crossed at lock 22, but from 22 to 24 they are all going to lead you into the Salt Creek Wash. We always called them locks, because they are actually gates to control flow of water in the canal, and to raise/lower the water level to feed irrigation. I guess the official name is Siphon 24, and that's what google maps calls them. What really matters is that they are the only way to drive across the Coachella Canal. These will be every mile or two along the canal.

This isn't a challenging trail, but a fun one with historical POI. Don't go if it looks like it might rain, or you might get more challenge than you want. It rarely rains there in the desert, but when it does in the monsoon season, it can literally be a gully washer.

Stop whining about the 'ride' - If your YJ ain't wrangling your soul free, then might I suggest you buy a stationwagon... at least you can fit all your bull**** in the back.

Just need to know one thing . . .

Will @Chrisnvegas be joining in on the Area 51 infiltration attempt? Or will he just be having fun in the dunes observing from afar?

The forum is seriously messed up today. It's not as slow as normal, but I can't view all the pages in some threads, and posts take a *really* long time to show up.

And I keep getting no-way-out denial pop-ups on my iPhone telling me I have viruses.

That hasn’t happened in a while. Perhaps the russians think there’s an election of some sort since bruinjeeeep posted a new ‘vote’ yjotm thread?
