when should the timing chain be changed
I just purchased a 94 yj with a 2.5 L . It has 137000 miles on it and I can't find info for mileage on the timing chain . Is it true the water pump should be changed at the same time?
A timing chain does not need scheduled replacement in the same way a timing belt does; the chain will not break; a belt can. If it runs OK then you probably have nothing to worry about. Ditto for the pump; if it is not leaking, no need to replace it. Save your $$$, its a Jeep, you'll need it soon enough!
Yep, I was confused and worried too coming from an audi as my previous car. Timing chain>timing belt...especially when it decides to snap when driving home at midnight from the city in the pouring rain and throwing all the rods into the block...that was a nice little $2000 mistake
