What parts are worth robbing from an XJ?

I have an 88 YJ with the 4.2L, BA-10 transmission,D30 front, and D35 rear.

I bought my daughter an 88 XJ pioneer Cherokee for us to fix up as her first car. As we were digging in, we quickly realized the entire truck needed to be re-wired. The PO must have cut and spliced every wire in the Jeep. I have it up for sale as a project, but are there parts I can use off the XJ for my YJ?

I think the XJ has the hp d30. Maybe trade her automatic transmission and replace the ba10 with it. Keep the 4.0 head to build up the 4.2? Possibly her steering column if it has tilt.

Thoughts? Any other parts I could use?

Thanks!

Pull the engine, transfer case, rear axle, ECU and engine harness keep them for the YJ.
I'd sell parts off the shell and sell the trans, to do an AX15 swap on the YJ not go auto, .

Wheels/tires if they're nice

Maybe the front axle, all the mounts will be wrong, but it could be used for spare parts or sold.

With the 4.0 and the 4.2 you can build a stroker

Whats over that next ridge?

In addition to above:
The ebrake lever can be used to get rid of the pedal parking brake if that appeals to you. Keep the D30 and CV driveshaft, too. Sell the ECU. Junk the XJ. Save the air filter box as it is modifiable for other YJ applications but is hard to obtain sometimes.

[size=3]Shackles & D-rings are different things.

That's what I was thinking. I'm having trouble finding how to swap a HP Dana 30 into the YJ. I'm also thinking of grabbing the NP231 transfer case to have a spare to rebuild and install a SYE on while I still drive the jeep.

Is there a way to add the air filter to my carbureted 4.2?

Thanks!

YJ's already have HP Dana 30's from the factory.

If memory serves correctly, swapping t-cases might be a problem. Since they're both 6 cylinders, I think they're the same spline count, but I think I've read that YJ and XJ t-cases are clocked about 10 degrees differently. That's not a ton, but I assume they did it for a reason. You'll want to look into that. All the internals otherwise should be fine, so you could keep it as a spare.

'90 YJ - Squirrel powered and on 35's!

They are clocked slightly different, but people drill the adapter to correct this, easy fix.

That XJ likely has the Renix 4.0 and LP D30, I wouldn't keep anything. You'll get more parting it out, but that's also a headache. "Project" XJ's around here might bring $600 and this is a place where a YJ hardtop will fetch $1,400.

Do the LP D30s have different axles? But the again did those earlier XJs not have the one-piece R axle shaft? (CAD instead?)

Shafts are the same, early XJ's used the CAD as well I believe. I picked up a complete XJ D30 with a busted knuckle for $50 to get the shafts and steering components when I still had a D30.

Doesnt sound like there is much worth keeping. Im just going to sell it as to get it out of here. Ive already got a new car lined up for my daughter. 2003 Tahoe in really good shape. Plus a good deal. Cant pass it up.

She does have the benefit of helping me on the YJ, so she will still learn and keep her out of trouble. Lol
