what the heck is this stuff?

so i was taking off the carpet today to ***** what i needed to do before doing a herculiner....and i noticed this tinfoilish stuff not glued but adhesed to the floor pan on both sides and behind the boot..if anyone knows what this stuff is please let me know..thanks

Sounds like someone added sound deadening stuff. Snap a pic of it. That usually helps us.

My 93 had it, looked factory. Heat, sound barrier I guess and a pain to remove as it was stuck directly to the floor pan but a little brake cleaner and now its gone.

I've been on the internet too much lately. Now, even I'm beginning to think that "breaks" are what you use to stop your Jeep.

It is sound deadening material. I've never seen it used on a Jeep from the factory (really, what's the point?)

Maybe it was a 1995 thing. Does yours have a hard top? I can see adding it to a hard top Jeep, because it might become "sort of quiet." Really with a soft top there isn't much point...

I agree, its probably a product like dynamat. Does it look like this?

Don't Herc over it. Pull it out. I don't believe that Dynamat is a durable enough product that you would want to Herc over. Sorta like putting fresh paint over dirt.
