Garage
I moved the new bumper up tighter against the tub last night. It looks much better now.

This meant that I had to modify the frame rails some more. I cut the triangle piece off of the bottom and welded it on the top. With a little grinding you will never be able to tell.

Then I cut a hole in my floor so I can lower the fuel cell finally. It will be so nice to have a little more storage.

Very good idea.

Maybe in my 40s i think i'm gonna start another project. I got a ways away to think about it. But definitely pre 60s something.

I just want to get to have some fun in 2022 with this YJ. I miss it. Like, yearn.

Tackled my drums last night, and today I tried to adjust the parking brake which has had about 3' too much slack for as long as I've owned it. I adjusted the parking brake nut under the driver's side and the driver's side cable is about 2-3" longer than the passenger. I cant get the driver's side to bite, the passenger is fine. The driver's side star adjuster is actually tightened *more* than the passenger (borderline too hard to spin by hand). What gives here?

Which brake kit did you use? I am about due to inspect mine and replace the missing parking brake parts inside the drums.

Meanwhile, I pulled the Jeep out of the garage early enough to work in the shadows and out of direct sunlight to spray some Duplicolor bed liner on the passenger side from firewall to the front of the rear deck. Once this cures I can put the cleaned and repainted seat riser/slider back in and fit a carpeted plywood platform on it for the dog's enjoyment.

I've had good results with several Duplicolor specialty paints like the various ceramic and high heat versions so I'm interested to see how well this bed liner does. Looks good so far. Interestingly the directions mention putting their roll on liner on one hour after the last spray coat if you desire. Or it can be recoated any time (other than 20 minutes between spray coats).

AC Delco drums and shoes for ~$75 + tax. They're cheaper (by far) on Amazon vs Oriellys, Advanced, Autozone. The AC Delco hardware kit is garbage, only has springs. I got the Brakebest H2309 kit for ~$30 which included new cable guides, star adjusters + springs .. basically everything.

That is a good price. Rockauto.com is another great place for our yj's. That have the same setup for around 70 but then there is shipping.
These days I feel a little bad for the local auto parts places. Other than getting the part right now,if they have it in stock, they lose a lot of business from me due to pricing.

Yesterday I finished up and bolted the dog platform in place of the passenger seat that had rusted out.

This pic is a little dark because it's cloudy outside and not much light in the garage.

Reggie took a test ride yesterday and liked it although he has to get used to stepping over and not into the small gap between the platform and rear deck.

Edit: Quick tip - if the bolts holding the riser to the floorboard are hard to remove, before putting them back in chase the threads in the floor with a tap (3/8 X 16) and clean any rust off the bolt threads. Maybe smear a dab of Door Ease beeswax lube on the bolts.
