Wheeled it today. Didnít get many pictures.

Ended up having a short day at the park. Inverted a shackle but got lucky and didnít bend the spring. Just hooked it to a tree and popped it back into position. But I did lose the gearbox seal above the pitman arm and lost power steering. Tough to have manual steering with big tires and lockers.

All to the desert 87.

Removed the belts. Both belts were way over tightened and both the power steering and alternator pulleys tend be pointed more to the front of the jeep causing some misalignment. Sometimes just loosening and relaxing the problem makes stuff come back in line. Not on the alternator on this one. Something is still slightly tweeked but can be addressed later. The power steering adjusting brackets were all tight but the bolts that hold the pump to it were a different story. One was missing and the other very loose. Took a lot of digging through old bolt bins to find a good fit without having my power steering pulley puller at home. Needed a short thread on a stout bolt with a flanged head. I was pretty proud of having a bolt like that laying around. LOL. The PS belt I ordered is not correct. Need a new one.

Changed out all the coolant hoses and the thermostat. This is a SW Jeep. I knew that there was some crud and basically only water in the cooling system. There are signs of rust just looking through the radiator cap. It was uglier than I expected when opened but not hopeless. I did find a couple of pieces of metal behind the thermostat that I just wonder it they are water pump impeller parts. I flushed tons and tons of water through it from about every possible opening and in every possible direction while changing the t-stat and hoses. Crazy thing is that there are no rusted suspension bolts on this Jeep but it took me a couple of hours to get the t-stat housing off of it without breaking a bolt. Those suckers were seized.

Picked away at some more fuel line details and vacuum stuff.

If you cannot fix it with a hammer then it has to be an electrical problem.

Finished cleaning out my fuel tank. Have had acetone soaking in it for a while to remove all the varnish. Finally did the mods to the new fuel sender I bought and installed it into the tank. Replaced more rubber lines, fuel, trans cooler, etc. Bought more parts. Detail little stuff that adds up like crazy. Mounted my mirrors. Got the correct PS belt and put belts back on.

While at the parts store I found some plastic square inserts on the Dorman rack that seem to be nice replacements for the plastic license plate screw inserts for a YJ. They say they are for a KIA. Worked on Kias a while and do not recognize these to fit anywhere on one. But still. Nice replacements for the small square holes on our license frames. Most replacements now are much larger.

I own two YJ's and have never driven either of them on the road. Getting close to driving the 87 for the first time. Crazy, right?

Bought a NIB DANA 30 Aussie Locker for $175 and installed it. Replaced both front half-shaft U-Joints. Found LF unit bearing had 1/4”+ play in it and Napa wanted $85 so I got the cheapie on amazon for $27

Good deal on the locker! Mine held up under ridiculous torture. Actually the locker and gears were the only thing that was salvageable from my d30

Stop whining about the 'ride' - If your YJ ain't wrangling your soul free, then might I suggest you buy a stationwagon... at least you can fit all your bull**** in the back.

I build me a display stand. I am taking DaddyJeep to a car show this weekend and needed to do something to get noticed among the sea of shiny things.

Took my new 90 yj with the 4.2L to get an emission test today. I failed CO levels miserably but passed HC barely and NOX with flying colors. I’m having rough idle issues somewhat and I’m under the impression high CO levels are due to rich fuel mixture. Anyone have any suggestions?

Finished up my steering.

Went with the Durango box upgrade...... Im sure if it was an issue it would have shown up in the threads, but I was a bit taken when I found out the Durango box only takes three studs vs the 4 on the OEM YJ box.

Also got the clutch slave and master cylinders installed.

More steps towards a running/driving jeep.

Should have gotten a tetanus shot with this jeep!

Finished wiring my compressor. Its kinda messy under the hood now, I'll get a pic tomorrow. Gotta leak test the air lines in the morning, I'm pretty sure theres a leak for the rear one.

O≤ sensor first. Probably has ruined the CAT too, but no sense changing that until you've put in a new O≤.
