I noticed a tag while looking up and under my front grill. Crawl under there and look in that area, under the radiator area.

Seek out the auto squad of your local police department or state troopers. They know where all the hidden VINs are.

thanks for the reply. I have the tag on the grill. I was hoping for another location where they stamp it on the grill. Know of any?

Thanks for looking
Did you try asking the TJ technical forum? Those guys might know better

I'm not sure but I think that is an urban legend. My buddy had a Jeep to the frame to sandblast and paint. No hidden one that we found.

It's not a legend. How do you think the cops ID a vehicle with a VIN swap? They are hidden for a reason

They are not really hidden just hard to find. If they have them they are in mid frame. On Yj I do not think they have them but starting on about 97- present models have them.

A 89 yj with a 4.0 aw4 sye out of an 92xj. Now the hard part is done time to get it up in the air just a bit. Working on 8.8 with 3.73 and lsd for the rear. and new D30 hp with 3.73 .
For those who have not figured this out I'm old school but can handle the new too.

You know how stuff gets out. This is not as of national security or anything! If there were hidden don't you think we would all know by now? My buddy actually scrapped the frame and we cut it up. He even took a borescope to the inside of the frame in hidden areas. No vin# was found. Unless it was invisible!

Most parts now days have a vin number on the inside panels. Like the fenders, hood. trunk, seats, and some have the frame that is imprinted on them if they have frames.

On a YJ it is located on the cross frame right in front of the fuel tank. On top of the frame.

Bringing up this old thread:

The PO gave me 2 tags (photo) as frame-off restoration leftover. Any idea where they go? The one reading "x-member" is supposed to be somewhere on the frame?!

The rectangular (bigger one, wider) goes under the front frame cover cross member by the grill.

The thinner one looks to me like it's your axle tag. Those get bolted under the differential cover bolts on top of the differential cover lip

I can see 3.07 gears. Might want to gear up. Lol
