starter issue

okay, i just put in a new (used) motor in my jeep
the people i got it from told me it was out of a 93 YJ (I have a 91)
Now after putting this thing in, judging by the difference in motor mounts etc, we seem to think it is out of a cherokee maybe.
so anyway, I went to try and start the thing just now, and it wouldnt fire. It was a power issue. The wires were right with the starter, and the battery should have been okay but it wouldnt fire. It seemed to jam up
Is it possible that if it is out of a Cherokee taht the starter would be different? Im going to get part numbers from advanced tomorrow but im just wondering if anyone has any ideas.
Thanks

4.0, 2.5?? what motor are we talking about??

The motor mounts should be the same between those years.

4.0 my bad....but the mounts were different thats why i was under the impression that it came out of a cherokee

Is the alternator located towards the bottom of the engine? Is the water pump centered with the radiator?

edit shouldn't be a starter problem

Make sure the battery is charged. Terminals are tight on the battery and ground on the block.

If it doesn't start, put a socket on the crank pulley and see if you can turn the engine over by hand(w/ a ratchet) If it doesn't turn over by hand, drop the start and try again.

Everythign bolted on (alternator etc.) exactly how it did with the old engine. ITs possible the battery wasnt fully charged but i dont think that was the case. Terminals were tight but i can check the ground to the block tomorrow to make sure it is tight

any ohter possibilities. All it did was click once when i tried to turn it over

click once means its prolly the batt. If everything bolted up the same as yours it is out of a YJ. The XJ pully setup is alot different.
