SBC swap tach and seat & console questions

My Bro-in-Law has a '90 YJ that is getting a SBC w/700R 4 speed automatic swap.

He has been told be his mechanic doing this swap (he's done a bunch of them) tells him the stock YJ tachometer won't work with the new engine. He does not want to end up with a mis-matched speedometer/ tachometer gauge set up. Can both gauges be replaced with units that will work?

Does someone make a custom insert that replaces the tach-speedo cluster in its entirety?

Next question. Can a stock TJ console accommodate the 700R shift handle? What about the shift bezel?

I do believe that the 2002 and newer TJ's had a 4 speed automatic transmissions option.

He is also looking into front seats. I do not think they need to tilt. Could the TJ seats console and shift console fit in the YJ? Or are they a bit too wide to be used in the YJ?

Thanks for any input up front.

Do you know what was good about the good old days? I wasn't good, And I wasn't old!

Yes the TJ auto console can accommodate it. I've seen it!

Yes that'll all fit. The stock TJ seats are not a direct bolt up to the YJ risers, but with mild fab work they will work. I almost bought a YJ that had a similar set up to the one you are describing; SBC/700r4, TJ seats, TJ console, etc.
Thanks for any input up front.
Some of my response is in your quote, done in RED.

And as for the tach, try this before you do anything else!

Thanks Sparrows!. He is not actually doing the SBC swap. He isn't a hands on guy but, he has a mechanic/friend turning the wrenches.

I'm in Ma he is in SC so these question pop up over the phone or in an email. My BIL is the one who keeps this whole swap evolving. At first he was going to use the column auto shift but his was for the 3 speed auto tranny. That won't be right with the 700R tranny so the console idea was something I threw out there. I know one thing for sure. It will be nice once it gets done.

If he still wants a column shift, a late 80s S-10 should work. They came with the 700R4 (with the 4.2 V6), and the YJ column is a GM style column.

418 miles on 19 gallons of gas. Can't beat the BBD !

That was on option his mechanic offered because it was easy and had been done previously. BUT he saw the TJ with the floor console and that was the way he wanted to go!

Questions 1 and 2 yes and yes. Here is what I use:

Im sure you may be able to find it for cheap on fleebay or something.

Question 3: When I used to have a 700r transmission I used a B&M cable shifter on the floor. It worked great. Not sure if it would fit with a TJ console though

I was gonna recommend the same. When I did my gauges I got the center section pod thing and all the gauges from egauges.com Summit also has good pricing on the Autometer and gauges, when I swap the tach and speedo, I'll likely use Summit just because I get them the next day from the Reno store.
