Reverse light issues

Hello, I have a 1994 YJ and having a weird issue with getting my reverse lights to work. I have replaced the back up light sensor on the tranny. I have replaced the lights itself. If I turn ignition on and twist the blue/white and purple wire together reverse lights light up no problem. Hook them up to the sensor and works while not screwed into the side of the tranny when I press the ball it works as it should. After I screw sensor back into place and put it into reverse, nothing. No reverse lights, not a thing. Anyone have an idea what I might have missed?

Does the switch have an adjustment on it? Sounds like the switch isn't being engaged by the shifter.

The 4th 5-seater YJ in the world.

It does come with an o-ring. I have tried it with or without it, no luck either way. Besides that no other way to adjust it.

OK. Pull the "sensor" back out, and while looking into the hole for it, have a friend manipulate the gearshift, without it running. You should be able to see the "comb" in there that is supposed to activate that switch in the correct positions. It should move with each movement of the shifter. Report back what you observe.
