Outside door handle issue

My passenger side door handle was not 'catching' and not working about 6 months ago. I was able to get inside the door and bend the linkage to where it would operate again. Today it happens again, kind of getting stuck in the open position without actually opening the door. The inside handle is fine. Is this a known issue and is there a better replacement available? Not a fan of the Chinese Omix Ada parts.

Try lubing and cleaning the crap out of the door latch itself. It may not be a handle problem at all.

If you cannot fix it with a hammer then it has to be an electrical problem.

I had issues with the formed metal clips that hold onto the threaded rods sliding out of adjustment.

I grabbed a couple of simple L brackets and some nylock nuts and got rid of the factory clip things. I don't know if that really makes sense but, once you're in there it makes more sense.

Thanks guys. What I found before was a little arm that rubs a pivot linkage, that arm was worn. I bent it for more contact but it must have worn more or bent back. I'll dig into this on Saturday.

Let me echo what Boojo35 said about lube. When I first got my YJ, the latches and locks on both doors were very stiff. When I pulled the door panels, I recall that one of the plastic "fittings" was broken. All of the other problems were due to the lube turning into solid little cakes of gunk. Clean out that old lube and put on some new. Even if this is not your problem right now, it will save you some pain down the road.

I got into the door today...it was the same as before. The linkage for the outside handle it worn, so the one pivot part slips past the handle cam. I bent it like I did before for better contact. This works. I might have to throw some tack welds on it eventually to stiffen it up or just replace the whole outside assembly.
