My 92 Budget Build

I figured I would start documenting the build on my new to me 92 YJ.

So this is my 8th jeep. 2nd YJ. So I really got into the bug with my old LJ, but after spending a year and a half building it life happened and I had no time for it. So I bought a JKUR, but after 2 years I was tired of worrying about destroying it. So now comes the YJ.

Specs when I bought the YJ
92 YJ
87 4.2 and BA10
4" Rough Country Lift
35x12.5x15 KM2s
Sport Cage.

So all of that got ripped out.

Specs now
93 XJ 4.0 and AW4
44/60 4.10s
Spring over front with stock yj springs
Spring over rear with 3.5 xj springs and motobilt stretch kit.
37x12.5x17 STT Pros on H2 Rims

I brought the jeep home in January.

Started ripping into it a week later.

originally was going to use the rough country springs spring under front and the xj springs rear but wound up changing and going spring over. tried it with the rough country springs in the front and it was wayyyy too tall. so stock yj springs were ordered and swapped in along with 5/8" lift boom shackles. got the rear stretch kit in the rear.

Decided that the 4.2 and ba10 needed to go. so I picked up a 93xj with 100k for $500 for the motor and trans. got that ripped out and swapped in a weekend.

Got the wiring harness from the xj swapped in, still needs some cleanup to get the jeep running.

Got a fuel cell wired up with external pump.

Fixed some frame rot.

Got the steering set up.

Just ordered shocks for the jeep as well as comp cut corners for the rear.

Been a while since Ive updated this.

Parts have been added, plans have changed.

Ripped out the factory dash and replaced it with a custom aluminum dash.

The front 44 was bent, so I naturally went overboard and decided it was time to link, stretch and go full hydro.

Picked up an 08 Super Duty 60 with 4.10s to go under the front.

Got everything stripped out and got the front axle slapped under to approximate final wheelbase. Looks like its gonna be right at 108

Should be getting the links done this weekend.

Very cool.

What did you in terms of HVAC routing to your new vents? I see your bulky box is gone.

I will see if i can get some pictures. but I wound up replacing the heater core with an aftermarket heater,

this one https://summitracing.com/parts/sum-991106

and their duct kit for it.

fits perfectly behind the dash on the passenger side. hooks up to the standard heating hoses from the motor and has its own blower control.

Well today was three steps forward and five back. got the lower links figured out and mocked up out of pvc.
Then had to take the truss off to put the trackbar mount on.

Realizing that with the highsteer arms my H2 rims arent going to work,

so either have to buy new rims with less backspacing or go with 1.5" spacers up front to clear the arms.

Ordered shock hoops for the front on a blackfriday sale from motobilt. still need to order ball joint eliminators, new hubs, lower ball joints, orbital, reservoir, ram, ram mount, air shocks, limit straps, locker, oh and brakes.

Then I get to figure out the rear axle. Currently trying to find a 14 bolt, but wouldnt be too upset with a 10.5.
Then figure out if im gearing the axles or just living with 4.10s for now.

I wound up having to run 1.5” spacers on my rear Dana 70 to clear my shocks. Didn’t want to, but it was the best option. Haven’t had any issues with them yet.

So I wound up ordering a ram mount from tmr and highsteer arms from tmr on a 50% sale.

Started mocking up my three link and then said screw it. 4 link it is.

So front 4 link is in process.

Still have to tack the uppers in and cut down the pvc to mock things up and cut off the trackbar mount.
Looks like full bump will be the axle truss flat to the frame with the upper links on either side of the crank pulley.

Are you doing full hydro steering or hydro assist?
