-Brief history of your jeep and how it came to be.
I originally bought this jeep in February of 1999. It ran like crap due to the stock carb, but that was soon replaced with a Holley 2 barrel. I put on a 4" Rough Country lift and some 31" BFG MT's and ran it like that for a lot of years. It eventually got a Howell TBI upgrade. After the frame rusted out and the tranny died it slowly got build into what it is today. I had a 5.2 rebuilt by my local VoTech school, but that didn't work out so well. I am now finishing up my GM drive train swap. Somewhere around 2001 is when It picked up the DaddyJeep name. My oldest son would hear me coming home from work and run to the door and say "DaddyJeep" so it kind of stuck.

My newest DaddyJeep artwork.

I've built the whole thing myself. A lot of time and effort went into building this Jeep. I don't have a dedicated build thread, but I've documented the major modifications in threads through the years. I purchased it when I was 17 at the behest of my dad, who owned a TJ Rubicon at the time. I've owned it for about 12 years now. I met my wife because of this Jeep (seriously), dated her in this Jeep, and I got married to her in this Jeep. Although it is no longer a daily driver and I live in an area where four-wheeling is scarce, I will keep it until one of my kids eventually wants it. I belong to a Jeep club that is fairly active, and I go wheeling with them whenever I can. The whole family rides along in the 5-seat YJ.

We call her Mauser after my favorite smokepole. In 2013 I found myself working at a newly relocated office, and no longer had access to a full working fab shop. I've always been a hands on kind of guy, and now with the kids all grown and gone, and no company shop to tinker around in, I figured I needed a gas and oil hobby to keep my hands busy. I started out looking for a Samurai, just something to run around town in, but decent smog legal units were hard to find, and even worse to find parts for. So once I came to my senses I upshifted gears and started looking for a CJ or YJ. Found this one for $3,900 and away we go. I have very modest goals for her, nothing like some of the great rigs we see around here. And there is no hurry either, because our journey together is what matters, not the finished rig. The best thing is, my wife loves this thing as much as I do.

I don't really consider this a build in the traditional offroading sense. More mods centered around fun projects I want to tackle, or have tackled, to make my YJ exactly the way I want it. I'm all about fit and finish that makes the Jeep appear stock, but is a vast improvement over what Chrysler did in 1992.

As she sits currently, she has the rebuilt 2.5L engine with about 40,000 miles on it and the majority of the Jeep is stock. All work was done by me, mostly with inspiration from things I found on JF. Upgraded items include:

Westlake SL369 - 31x10.50R15LT 109Q tires
complete overhaul of the fluids, suspension bushings and steering components
Chevy Tahoe overhead console/switch panel DIY
Ford Explorer front seats
Nissan Pathfinder tire carrier fabbed/modified to fit
Fabbed drop down tailgate from Ford Econoline rear door hinges and stock YJ tailgate.
aftermarket hood assist kit with modified rad supports
Hidden Hitch towbar
DIY dual battery kit with self rescue and fabricated battery tray
stainless brake lines throughout DIY bent myself
15>20 gallon fuel tank mod
4.0L throttle body mod
new mirror relocation brackets fabricated from a Mitsubishi Montero
handbrake mod from a ZJ
Gentex temp/compass dimmable rear view mirror from a Saturn View
Mishimoto electric fan
130amp Denso alternator upgrade plus DIY big 3 cable upgrade
Brown Dog motor mounts to keep those 4 pesky squirrels in place and under control

Upcoming projects include:
Restore CJ hardtop
Restore fiberglass hard doors
finish wiring overhead console
finish installing Ford Explorer split fold rear seats
DIY lizardskin/monstaliner on the interior
new front bumper and fenders
exterior paint job
axles at some point in the far future

Now that I'm a homeowner, I'm really close to getting her to be my garage-kept project car, rather than my daily driver and then I can really get to work! So many projects have been waiting to get finished. All I've been doing lately is changing the oil and driving it.

I got my YJ in a trade for my 1994 GMC K1500 back in the beginning of 2009 when I decided to go back to college. I didn’t want to give up my 4wd but needed something more fuel efficient… what better than a 4banger jeep!! I drove it bone stock for about 7 months while I paid off some debt, and then the jeep bug hit. It started with some 130watt spot lights, then some 30in mud tires. As I wheeled more, gained more experience behind the wheel, and tackled tougher terrains I have evolved my jeep out of necessity through trial & error, all while still maintaining my mall-crawlin’ good looks
After almost 6 years of enduring the 4cyl stuggles, I have finally pulled the trigger on my v8 swap and after many beers, re-do’s, electrical gremlins, transmission leaks, and more beers the swap is complete with a few offroad trips on it and about 2500 miles, im loving the power of the 350 and the ease and control of the auto trans (I know I know…).
All the struggles have been worth the effort until the next phase of the build! I have the superduty 60 in the garage, plans for the matching Sterling 10.25/10.5 and then the parts collection will commence.

Here’s the current specs:
• 1994 TBI 5.7 350, Advanced Adapters Motor Mounts
• 1988 700r4 with Lokar 12” Shifter
• 1988 NP231cHD / 1995 NP231j Hybrid with JBFAB Billet cable shifter
• JB Conversions SYE and a shortened and beefed up XJ CV front drive shaft for my new rear shaft
• Ford Taurus 2 speed electric fan with Volvo relay, Saab inline temp housing, and VW 2spd temp switch
• Dodge Durango Steering Box and Ruff Stuff Heim Steering
• Locked F/R - HP30(Solid Cover, Lock-Rite Locker, TJ shafts, Timkin hubs, 4.10) and Ford 8.8 (Solid cover, Lokka Locker, Disc Brakes, 4.10)
• Metalcloak 4” arched Front Fenders
• Metal cloak Frame-built Bumper with Winch Guard and Hi-Mount Shackle System
• Warn VR8 winch with, 100’ of synthetic rope and billet hawse.
• Rubicon Express 4in suspension, BSERK stock length Shackles
• 35x12.5R17 ProComp MT2 and 17x9 KMC enduro beadlocks
• Poison spyder full custom cage
• Poison Spyder Crusher Corners and Hood Louvers
• Barnes4wd full length rocker sliders
• Modified TJ Bestop extend-a-trunk security tonneau
• C-RES top, Bestop Supertop and soft doors, CJ7 Full Steel Doors
ROKMEN aluminum drop down tailgate
Mastercraft suspension seats
• Projector LED headlights
• KC cyclone LED rock lights, LED tail lights, red LED dash lights, 7’ 45w LED spots on the windshield, and 12” IllumiNationLed Light Bar up front guiding the way
• Pioneer stereo with Rampage steel security console, 12” shallow-depth Pioneer Sub, Kicker Amp, and I’m sure plenty of other stuff here and there.

Lil' More:
My only daily driver and still kickin'. Thanks for helping me get sicker, and sicker... it's been a fun and bank account crippling adventure that has taught me a lot of good. Thanks guys and gals for the fantastic relief from the daily grind, and for all the future endeavours y'all will undoubtedly assist with. Just adding into the numbers here – no good pics yet with all the new additions. It's getting to a point where I can be fairly confident when i do challenge it and myself.
