Lift Question

Hey there,

I want to throw a set of 33x10.5 tires on my YJ and was wondering what sort of lift/ modifications I would need to do in order to accommodate those tires, I've looked into it and I've had troubles in regards to finding a clear answer.

Minimum 2.5" lift with 5/8" shackles and TJ flares with some slight trimming to the wheel opening

2" or 2.5" lift + 1" body lift should work for 33", if you don't need a ton of up travel.

You can augment that with a minor 1/2" lift shackle, if needed. As mentioned, TJ flares in the rear really open up the rear wheel well.

Keep the lift as low as possible to prevent vibrations, SYE, and other expensive mods.

You might also want to think about:

1) The spare tire - the weight of a 33" tire will quickly destroy the stock tailgate. But you can always carry a smaller spare.

2) Gearing - the 2.5L is a dog of an engine, and the larger tires won't help, if you have the 2.5

3) Brakes - the YJ brakes aren't great, but should be okay for 33" tires. There's not a real cost-effective upgrade for them. Maybe the double diaphragm booster upgrade.

4) Rear Dana 35 - it's a weak axle. I personally wouldn't wheel it on 33" tires, but it's *probably* okay for street use.

There are a ton of threads on all these issues.
