HELP PLEASE Bell Housing Drip and Rattle

Hey guys. I need some help. I am a novice mechanic. My 89 4.2 Wrangler had been leaving a puddle of oil each time I drove it. Through the help of the posts on this forum, I was able to walk my way through changing out the rear main seal. It has helped enormously. I still have a few drops coming from the bottom of the inspection plate and a natsy rattle coming from inside the bell housing. It looks like I have to drop the transmission to remove the inspection plate to see whats going on. Something that I don't really have the equipment or experience to tackle. Is it possible to look into the bell housing to examine the flywheel, etc. from above by removing the shifter dust cover and plate? I plan to brace the housing and drop the skid plate next day off to check the transmission oil. I would really like to get this resolved at the same time if possible. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry but I don't think trying to see from top will help because whatever is rattling is going to settle in the bottom.

Sounds like the throw out bearing is bad, leaking, and loose. Pull the trans is the only real way to know for sure. My 17 year old daughter, with minimal help from me, dropped the transmission of her 91 YJ in our driveway. I think you can do it.

Alrighty then...

I'll take a whack at dropping the transmission. I'll dig back into the posts on dropping the transmission. Any links to step by step would be most appreciated.

Send a Thank You to Jeepsr4me on the forums.
I found that link by using the search features on the forums and searching, "Online FSM" Jeepsr4me posted that link 5 days ago. Should be good. That, or it's porn. Either way
