Heater Core (I think)

Apologies if this has been covered, but I couldn't find a thread for it.

1989 Jeep YJ Sahara 4WD. Her name is Ginger.

Over the winter I started smelling engine coolant from my heating vents, but recently she started leaking coolant from the heating system drain. Is this a heater core leak?

Heater core

Make sure your tube clamps are secure. I just had a vehicle that was leaking from the hose clamps and the leak was directed right back into the housing.

I would say yes it's leaking. I had the same thing.

A 89 will not showup on the inside they have a drain going out the firewall.

A 89 yj with a 4.0 aw4 sye out of an 92xj. Now the hard part is done time to get it up in the air just a bit. Working on 8.8 with 3.73 and lsd for the rear. and new D30 hp with 3.73 .
For those who have not figured this out I'm old school but can handle the new too.

I'll add another vote for the core.

They're easy/cheap to change.

And it is the firewall drain that spews the coolant.

Once again, a thousand thanks! My two buddies and I got the job done in exactly the 2 1/2 hours y'all said it would take! And we have no idea what we're doing! But Ginger is running just fine now and keeping her coolant where she should!
