front differential pinning in 2wd

I have a 92 Yj with 2.5 doubt it matters.but I noticed a stain under there Jeep and seen my seal at my front diff went out and was leaking pretty good. Then I noticed the front drive shaft was spinning when I moved in to my garage. I jacked up the front and put it in gear and the tires spun freely. I just have no clue where to start. Anyone have anything I should be trying or looking at. I would appreciate it.

Since you dont say whether you have a locker or not I would lean towards the CAD being permanently locked over or a 1 pice (TJ/XJ) axle shaft.

The second most common problem with bad 4wd engagement (after rotten vacuum lines) is the shift fork being wallowed out on the shaft. Positive engagement is never fully achieved and complete disconnect is the same. It is dangerous because you can strip the splines on the shafts and necessitate an overhaul of that side of the axle. Take off the four bolts holding the shift motor onto the axle and then take a gander. You'll never know til you perform an exploratory surgery.

I took it apart found out my actuator had a rust hole in it. And is not working properly. I put it back in 2wd so the drive shaft will stay still. Until I get the part. No 4wd for a week.
