Long story...

A mechanic told me my ECM in my YJ was bad so I grabbed one from Rockauto and I’m putting it in. Anything I need to watch out for while digging in here? My manual has disappeared so I’m working by feel.

Also, found this little thing hanging free... anyone know what it’s for?

Thanks!

Also, how do you get to that second screw at the back? I searched but found nada. Or do I just undo the tiny torx to remove it? I don’t have that size, so...

It is the optional solar feed wire to the battery backup system of the flux capacitor.

Ok. Being a wise guy here but your pic does no justice to where exactly this is on the Jeep..

I will stick with my first answer until you get more specific. LOL.
Awesome likes this.

If you cannot fix it with a hammer then it has to be an electrical problem.

It’s directly to the left of the ecm, beside it. I’ll draw a diagram of the entire jeep with arrows for you, would that help?

I figured since everyone here are Jeep savants and I was talking about the ECM, folks would read my mind and know what I was talking about. 🤟🏻

What year model do you have? Torx to replace a ECM does not sound right. Should be 3 bolt that are a 5/16 socket. 2 bolts on top and 1 on the bottom.

you won't believe me, but that connector is for the Daylight Running Lamps on the Canada export models.

Being the ECM is under the dash behind the glovebox on the 4.2, I'd assume your pic is looking under the dash???? That connector could be a lot of different things, can't see the wire colors etc. in the pic. If you pull the glovebox out the ECM is super easy to get to.

My ‘91 parts tub had three coarse-threaded torx drive screws that threaded into plastic inserts in the firewall iirc

I can’t remember if I used those or the 5/16” from the other 91 parts heep.

What year is your heep?
Depending on whether I imagine where I’m seeing in the pic is located that could be the optional hood lamp plug-in or the horn feed or the MAP sensor plug-in
…or luuca’s right
