Driveline noise '95 yj 2.5 manual

My YJ(74k miles) makes a clinking, clanking, sometimes chirping noise as I let out the clutch and accelerate. At cruise the noise abates. If I push in the clutch and coast, there's no noise at all. Sometimes when decelerating there is faint noise, sometimes not. Any ideas?

It is very possibly a bad u-joint.

If you cannot fix it with a hammer then it has to be an electrical problem.

Yeah that's what I'm hoping it is. I'm a little worried about the transfer case being as I've never dug into one before. Thanks for the reply.

My YJ's TC has 350K miles on it and (to my knowledge) has never been apart.

But U joints seem to last only a few years.

If the fluid is clean and filled it’s probably not your transfer case
like others have indicated the rear ujoints can act like that when they get dry

[size=3]Shackles & D-rings are different things.
