Dies when you put it in gear in the cold rain
I have a 1989 yj 6cyl auto it runs fine for a while then it bucks & dies I starts back up but I in drive or reverse I dies wait 10 / 15 minutes you can drive it again & then it will die again but only in cold rain didn't happen I the summer
I sounds like you have very basic worn out ignition parts that arc when wet. Distributor cap, rotor, plugs and wires.
If you cannot fix it with a hammer then it has to be an electrical problem.

When it dies can you get it to run if you pour fuel down the carb or use starting fluid to make it run? If the answer is yes replace the inline fuel filter. Check the air filter out also. IF you do not remember when they were changed, replace both of them and write it down. You could have a choke problem also.
Do you know what was good about the good old days? I wasn't good, And I wasn't old!
Senators and Congressman should wear uniforms like NASCAR drivers so we could identify their corporate sponsors....
