D44 axle swap questions..

Currently have a SOA yj. want to swap in Dana 44s I just bought.. one is out of a wagoneer (6 lug) and the other is out of a 87 XJ. id like the lug patterns to match. is it advisable to just get a wheel lug adapter for the rear? or what are my options for the front d44? reid flat top knuckles?

thanks for your patience. ive done the searches and most people have front and rear matching sets.. any ideas?

-steve

Honestly, sell that axle to someone with a jeep and pick up a rear axle from an Isuzu rodeo. It'll have the same lug pattern as your waggy and it will also have disk brakes.

You could get 6 lug shafts made and redrill the brakes easily. I did it to my 8.8. But you would probably make out better selling the xj 44 since every cherocar guy would kill for it since they bolt in. In my area youd get top dollar for that rear and easily cover a waggy or rodeo rear.

Beat me to it...
As said, the XJ 44 seems to be made of gold and the Rodeo 44s seem to be made of coal...or something.

Best solution is to have them match up to start.

Cheers

not to beat a dead horse but, there's a reason most people go for the matching sets. Save yourself some headache and time! we all know you got a lot more projects planned so don't go off on some crazy axle excursion, Keep It Simple!

Yea I copy that! Any specific rodeo or passport? I also have a spare toyota rear axle that's 6x5.5. That might work too or is that against the jeep gods? Lol

A dana 44 out of an isuzu rodeo will fit an SOA YJ? Does it already have the perches on top? Whats the comparison in measurement from WMS to WMS? I have been debating whether to put a ford 8.8 under or a DANA 44.

The Rodeo is 6 lug. Your profile says you have a d30 front. Unless you're swapping the front, then why? 8.8 is stronger anyway...

Cheers

Gotcha, didn't realize Anti was referring to the rodeo 44 as a match to the waggy 44. I am not swapping the front, I feel the D30 is enough for the 35's I have now. Hopefully I will have an 8.8 rear by the end of the summer.

The Isuzu 44 is also slightly narrower coming in at 58" wms to wms just some food for thought.
