Crazy Noise 92 YJ 4.0 AX15

Can anyone tell me what they think this noise is in the video? Here is a link the a video I made of the noise
. It occurs over 50mph. I think it may be either the TOB or pilot bearing. There is a noise before it gets as loud and I think it is the same noise but something is making it screech. Any ideas?

Throw out bearing would be making noise all the time. If I had to guess, I would think its either in the transmission or the TC Chain since it only appears under load.

Thanks Luuca, that is what I am guessing as well. You wouldnt happen to know what caveats there are to replacing a 92 AX15 with one out of a 95?

Thanks,

Mike

Just a heads up, Aisan still makes the AX 15 brand new. W/ all the upgrades since the 90’s. Got one shipped to my door for 1500 bucks. Have about 30k miles on it now. Not sure how much you are paying for a used one, but I couldn’t be happier w/ the brand new unit.

If you already have an external slave, no difference at all. Should swap without any issues.

Differentials can make noise that is only on acceleration or on decel. Worn pinion bearings or gear back lash for instance. I agree with @luc ca that it could be in the T-case also.

Does it matter what gear it is in when it makes the noise? If it goes away in a different gear than it most likely a transmission noise.

I also agree that the release bearing would be noisy all the time or change when the clutch is engaged or disengaged.

If you cannot fix it with a hammer then it has to be an electrical problem.

Fluids have all been changed. And it does sound like gears without lube. Could be that the transfluid isnt getting to 4th and 5th gear but since the gear are linear I dont know exactly how that would be.

@Luuca , are you talking about the clutch master cylinder that is in the engine compartment? I am only asking because the trans I got has a centerforce clutch and TOB. Will I be able to use those components?

The Slave Cylinder down at the ToB. An Internal sits inside the bell housing an External sits outside. Tyoe of clutch doesn't matter if you swap AX-15 for AX-15
